Meet Janaisia Davis

We were lucky to catch up with Janaisia Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Janaisia, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Full transparency, I still struggle with it some days! And I feel like most people have days or seasons where the imposter syndrome creeps up! I have days where I feel self doubt, or feel like I’m not capable of what I’m doing! However, when I get in those ruts, I remember that God would not place a passion/fire in my heart about something if I wasn’t capable! I also find watching mindset shift content helps as well! I feel like I’m in a constant battle with myself, but I always come out on top, better than ever!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

So I am a content creator & travel agent! I started taking posting more seriously at the beginning of this year. I was tired of scrolling on my phone watching other people live the life I want. So I said, ya know what let me start taking this seriously & create the life I want! Content creation has been something I have wanted to do since I was around 14. And I always think about where I’d be by now if I just kept posting & stuck with it. So I feel like me doing content creation now, and getting reached out to by brands etc is so healing to my inner child! Creating content is so fun for me and I love seeing the finished product. I also love seeing & celebrating content others post, because at the end of the day we ALL need to support each other! There’s enough room in the industry for us all.

I more so recently became a travel agent & started my journey with that! The opportunity to become one fell into my lap when I wasn’t even looking for it, & I went into this knowing nothing! But something in me wanted to take the leap & try to do something my friends weren’t really doing. I now have this great community of other like minded travel agents, but also get to provide this opportunity to others who may also want to start their journey in the industry!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I went to school for journalism & a marketing minor since social media wasn’t offered as a major! Within my time at school, I was able to take a few classes related to or based around social media/social media marketing! I also briefly worked for a social media agency straight out of college, & received a lot of hands on work through that! I would say staying consistent & patience are good qualities to have, especially in an industry like that ones I’m in! It’s rare people blow up over night on socials so it takes patience and consistency on my part & realizing that just showing up can do wonders. Same with my travel business. Clients aren’t just going to come to me, so I really have to put in the work & be consistent and patient!

If you’re someone who took the leap to try something new; one, congrats on doing so! and two: be patient with yourself & DO NOT give up at the first sign of hardship! You are going to have low days, but the days when you’re on top will out weigh them all! Remember growth is uncomfortable!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

I’m very prone to being anxious & getting overwhelmed, especially about things I can’t control! So lately I’ve been trying to implement some practices to help when I get to that point! I’ve started taking up the physiological sigh which is like one full inhale to fill your lungs, sneak another breath in, then slow breath out and that is just supposed to help reduce stress. I’ve started listening to nervous system regulation frequency videos at night on YouTube to help with sleep, as a lot of my thoughts & worries pop up at night! This has really helped my sleep. And lastly, I try and pray more often than not! I ask God to take my worries and anxiousness of the day away, so that weight can be lifted off my shoulders!
