Meet Alexandra Jensen

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Jensen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

When I started off as a writer, I didn’t feel like a writer. When I became a published author, I often shied away from calling myself an author. I felt like an imposter of sorts, a wanna-be, or someone who was trying too hard to be something she was not—until I realized that the stories of my past have refined me. I can be used by God as an author, not because I am perfect, but because of God’s perfect love coming to fruition in me. God doesn’t use me as an author because I am excellent in every way, but rather because I am broken. Broken vessels are better able to leak God’s grace and the Living Water of Jesus unto a world in need.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hi! I’m Alexandra Jensen. I am an author, speaker, and blogger. Something I am super passionate about right now is helping moms in “the trenches” look to Jesus to cultivate a mindset of gratitude. Gratitude leads to joy—happiness that is God rooted and lasts.

I have authored four books: A Place of Grace for Moms of Littles, Daily Grace for Moms of Littles, The Meaning of Motherhood, and A Beautiful Season. These books are available on Amazon.

I offer a course on my website (www.alexandrajensen.org): “How to Write a Quality Christian Women’s Nonfiction Book.” I also offer editing services for authors.

My speaking topics include: how to “Grow in Grace and Gratitude,” “Watering Joy and Gratitude in Motherhood,” and finding “Hope in Christ.” I can speak to a variety of faith-based women’s topics.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The book Stein on Writing was incredibly impactful to me as an author. It taught me how to write a rich narrative. Being a member of the COMPEL writer’s group and going to the She Speaks writers and speakers conference equipped me as an author. Incorporating subconscious narrative in my writing helps readers better relate. If you wish to write, my advice would be to read the book Stein on Writing. Join a writers group so that you have a community of like-minded friends to support and sharpen you. Keep on writing—every day.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

In the past year, I signed with a literary agent, Tracie Miles, who has helped connect me with top publishing houses. She has been a tremendous blessing, a voice of encouragement, and a key part of improving myself as an author.
