We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan D’Andrea. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
I developed my ability to take risks when I decided to launch my social media brand, NurseMeggyD, while still in my undergraduate nursing program. At the time, I was balancing a full course load, clinical rotations, and work, yet I chose to step into a very public space where my personality, ideas, and expertise would be on display—and open to both support and criticism. It was a leap of faith because it meant investing time, energy, and resources into something without any guarantee of success.
Starting NurseMeggyD required me to put myself out there authentically, share my personal experiences in nursing, and speak on health and wellness topics I’m passionate about. I overcame fear by focusing on the value I could provide—educating others, inspiring fellow nurses, and building a community that supports health, resilience, and self-care. Every post, video, and interaction became a small risk in itself, teaching me that calculated risks often bring the greatest growth.
Over time, I’ve learned that risk-taking isn’t about recklessness—it’s about trusting your vision, embracing discomfort, and being willing to fail forward. NurseMeggyD has not only grown into a platform that reaches thousands, but it has also strengthened my confidence, creativity, and courage—skills I now carry into every area of my personal and professional life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
NurseMeggyD is a brand I created during my undergraduate nursing program to inspire, educate, and connect with others in the health and wellness space. As an emergency room nurse and future Family Nurse Practitioner, my mission is to share real, relatable, and evidence-based content that empowers people to take charge of their health while also giving an authentic look into the life of a nurse.
What makes NurseMeggyD unique is the blend of professional expertise and personal storytelling. I don’t just talk about healthcare—I share the lessons, challenges, and behind-the-scenes moments that come with working on the front lines and pursuing advanced education. My platform has grown into a supportive community where nurses, students, and everyday people can find encouragement, wellness tips, and motivation to live healthier lives.
Currently, I am expanding my content to include more educational series, product collaborations, and community health initiatives. My long-term vision is to use this platform to support my future clinic, launch an equine therapy program for children, and create more resources that bridge the gap between healthcare providers and the communities they serve.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most important qualities that shaped my journey have been resilience, adaptability, and authenticity.
Resilience has been essential in navigating challenges—whether balancing my education with my nursing career, building my social media brand NurseMeggyD, or facing personal and professional setbacks. I’ve learned that the ability to keep going, even when things get difficult, often determines success more than talent or resources.
Adaptability has allowed me to grow in an ever-changing healthcare landscape and social media environment. From learning new clinical skills to keeping up with evolving digital trends, being willing to pivot and embrace change has opened doors I never expected.
Authenticity is the foundation of both my nursing practice and my brand. Staying true to who I am—sharing real experiences, being transparent about challenges, and leading with integrity—has built trust with my patients, my audience, and my community.
For those just starting out, my advice is this: expect challenges and use them to build resilience; stay flexible so you can seize new opportunities; and never compromise on who you are, because authenticity will always connect you to the right people and the right path.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I focus on slowing down and breaking things into manageable steps. In both nursing and running my brand NurseMeggyD, I’ve learned that trying to tackle everything at once only adds to the stress. Instead, I prioritize what truly needs my attention in the moment and set aside the rest until I’m ready to address it.
I also make time for activities that ground me—whether that’s spending time outdoors, riding horses, working out, or simply unplugging from my phone and social media. These moments give me space to reset mentally and physically.
My advice to anyone feeling overwhelmed is this: give yourself permission to pause, create a clear plan with small, actionable steps, and lean on your support system when needed. Overwhelm is temporary, but the skills you build in managing it will serve you for a lifetime.
