Meet Kathryn Peters

We were lucky to catch up with Kathryn Peters recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kathryn with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I developed my work ethic very young in life. Being the eldest of 8, helping my divorced mom around our home and with my siblings was a necessity. Because we didn’t have much in terms of personal belongings and sometimes even food, I did what I could to earn money to help pay for the things I needed, like clothing and even food. I learned to create solutions, not be a contributor to problems. Even though I had great responsibility at such an young age, I somehow learned to turn those early life experiences into positives, and that’s what drives me to this day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
After numerous years in corporate America, becoming a licensed Realtor is a welcome second act for me. Growing up in Minnesota, my family moved 11 times in my youth. Later, while living in Michigan and then Massachusetts for half the year while also keeping a second residence in Minnesota, I learned first-hand how to be well versed in residential real estate. I moved my family back to Minnesota permanently in 1988.

Because of my relocation experiences I know how to meet the specific wants and needs of my clients because I’ve been through it all! This knowledge allows me to successfully guide my clients in finding homes to fit their individual needs and lifestyles. Whether searching for a home for a primary or secondary residence, my unmatched experience in real estate and relocation will be a benefit as I have been involved in real estate transactions in the states mentioned and beyond!

A licensed Realtor since 2015, I am fully engaged in the real estate industry every single day. I am a multiple Platinum Award-Winning agent within Edina Realty and listed multiple times as a SuperAgent by Minnesota Monthly Magazine. My goal is to think outside of the box to always find creative ways to assist my clients. Whether listing or looking for a home, I enjoy helping both buyers and sellers.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I recommend giving careful consideration to those you wish to serve, and then educate, educate, educate yourself. When first becoming a realtor, it’s not unusual to start out working with buyers. 70% of the transactions I had in my first year were with buyers, so I obtained my ABR designation which is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. The second largest population of consumers is boomers, so I worked to obtain the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation which means that I have taken specialized courses to educate myself in assisting those clients. Lastly, I worked to obtain certification as a Pricing Strategy Advisor (PSA) to gain additional knowledge and skills to guide seller and buyer clients through the anxieties and misperceptions they often have about home values. Obtaining these designations and skills helps to keep me focused.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I try not to get to the point of feeling overwhelmed. For me, it’s essential to start every day with some form of outside activity regardless of the weather. I walk or run 30-35 miles per week and ride my tri-bike or fat tire 30-40 miles a week. I’m very disciplined, so everything is timed and documented in my journal. Starting my day in this way really clears my brain and motivates me to power through anything that comes my way. I’ve been know to say If I don’t take care of myself I can’t be good for others.
