We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Madeleine Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Madeleine below.
Hi Madeleine , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethics from my parents. My parents work very hard and they work multiple jobs while balancing home.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At 5 years old I told my mother I wanted to start a business selling lemonade. My motivation was my mother as I watched her being an entrepreneur. She told me to focus on school and venture into other career such as being a lawyer, physician, or a teacher as being an entrepreneur is difficult. A year passed by and I kept being persistent and my mom finally gave in and told me at 7 years old i would start a business. She gave me an assignment to think of a business name and idea. I came up with a business idea to sell hair bows for little girls. I have beautiful hair so I decided to name my business Madeleines Mane. On my 7th birthday we launched my website. It was a success as the news spread on social media. I’m now 12 years and since launching my hair bows I have launched detangling brushes and more recent a heatless curler Kit. My ultimate dream is to start my hair care line.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, these three things helped me the most:
1. Being flexible – Things don’t always go the way you think they will. I learned to adjust my plans instead of giving up.
Advice:,Try new things, even if they feel a little scary. Each time you handle a change, you get better at it.
2. Good communication – Being able to explain ideas clearly and listen to others made a big difference. It helped people trust me and work well with me.
Advice: Practice listening more than you talk. Ask questions so you understand before you answer.
3. Sticking with it – It’s easy to start something. The hard part is keeping it going. I learned that doing small things every day leads to big results.
Advice:,Make a simple daily habit that brings you closer to your goal, and don’t skip it.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was believe in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. They didn’t just tell me I could do big things, they showed it by letting me try, even if I might fail. When I made mistakes, they didn’t jump in to fix everything. Instead, they stood close enough to help if I really needed it, but far enough to let me figure things out. Because of that, I learned to be brave, make my own choices, and keep going when things got hard.
