Meet David Puu

We were lucky to catch up with David Puu recently and have shared our conversation below.

David, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My willingness to work steadily and consistently likely comes from my athletic background. Whether it was surfing, swimming, cycling or racing cars, skillset development always required consistent practice (repetition) and training out weakness(es). That led to higher performance potential in each sport.

Do anything one thousand times and you are going to get good at it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I work as a brand development specialist and content creator.

I am CEO of my own company which creates and licenses content and am CEO of Ocean Ohana Inc, which is a vertical model company for several Ocean Centric fashion brands that are distributed globally.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Intimate and thorough understanding of the Ocean 2. Strong Arts and Sciences background.
3. An elite athletics background.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Forced me to get good grades and participate in other sports besides surfing. If I did not get straight A’s they would ground me from surfing.

They also would not let me graduate from High School a year early to go to College for Pre Med study.

As a result, I started competing in surfing and cycling, in addition to swimming, waterpolo and eventually racing sports cars.

This changed the arc of my life
