Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Bryce Truhlar

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Bryce Truhlar. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Bryce, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
In this chapter of my life, I feel truly fortunate to be surrounded by great influences and a supportive team. I’ve partnered with AJG Fashion Consulting to help bring my apparel vision to life, and I’ve been equally grateful for the guidance of seasoned professionals in the industry who have shared their knowledge and insights as I navigate this new world of fashion. Beyond that, I remain committed to self-growth, dedicating time each month to reading one to three books on subjects ranging from business and psychology to economics—continually expanding the foundation that fuels both my personal journey and for my company Helio Menswear.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The company I am currently building, and am working to release to the public in March of 2026, is Helio Menswear! Helio is a men’s contemporary underwear and swimwear company with its’ roots deep in inclusion and simplicity. We are an LGBTQ+ company that puts its focus on helping its community in as many ways as possible such as community fundraising events and even scholarships to LGBTQ+ artists, designers, and more!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believe that as children we are taught that the word “no” is disrespectful and should be used lightly. We are also taught to be extra nice to earn respect and a place in this world. As I have gotten older and educated myself further I have come to realize that by not using the word “no” and in sometimes not standing your ground you lose a piece of yourself and your confidence in what you believe in. I now believe that while you should always be kind and thoughtful of others feelings and situations, you need to look out for yourself first and be assertive in what you want because the only person that is going to look out for you is YOU.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
My entire life I have dealt with being a pushover who helps anyone with anything even if it is to my own demise. I’ve spent thousands of dollars and thousands of hours giving away to people who gave nothing in return. Eventually, getting to this point led to resentment to those around me which I hated. I educated myself on better self-practices and communication skills over time through books and online talks. Eventually, I was able to set boundaries with those around me and set expectations for my current and future relationships. Of course, this led to a loss of people around me but I’ve found that my wounds have healed and my relationships are healthier than ever. I no longer feel that I have to bend to the will of those around me but instead have people by my side that I’m happy to help because of the mutual respect I now receive.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would absolutely say my goals are what matters most to me. My current goal is to have my net worth at 1 million dollars before I turn 26. I’m currently 24 so time is ticking but I spend every working hour towards my goals as I view them as not only achievable but surpassable. I’ve built and tried many companies but Helio Menswear feels like my winner and so I’m dedicating all of my time and money to build it up to be as successful as I know it will be.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Honestly I’m the happiest I’ve ever been with the work I am currently doing. I’ve enjoyed my work in the past with my various endeavors but working for myself and building something that is entirely mine is just a whole other level. I felt like I used to work a lot doing 40-50 hours a week but now I find myself working 12-16 hours a day 7 days a week! It’s a lot of time, energy, and money but I wouldn’t give it up for anything else. I’m loving everything that I am doing between the research, education, planning, and more. Helio has given me a purpose that I couldn’t have dreamed of and has given me goals that I WANT to push myself towards.
