We’re looking forward to introducing you to Cabell Rhode. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Cabell , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Composers usually give the performer parameter for tempo, unless its john cage. Then it comes in the form a detailed instructions on how to perform. percussive piano. Still, in this case, preparation is given the most specific detail. There are times within a piece where the feel of the movement may be very fluid, and other times when it may feel very slow to drag its feet. Entertainment in general is the very same thing. you have to know when to move and when to let it be. I’m thankful for all the times that i have been methodical. Excellence comes at the pace from which, the practice of preparation becomes second nature.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The Cabell Rhode brand represents a diversity of ideas and expressions. Shifting focus away from small niche market’s, The brand has a primary focus on storytelling and coming up with great songs. The Cabell Rhode brand has grown over many years, with several albums out in multiple genres.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I think a wise man tells the world who he is, and that measure suits me most best. Too often, in modern entertainment, we see a repackaging of old material. Most of the time, the unfortunate reality is that the original song is much better than the remix. I don’t see a lot of raising the bar. maybe more on the production side, but I’ve often said that won’t carry a song. My perspective is that I want to treat everybody with respect. I feel like it’s very important to be yourself.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
It’s in your darkest moments that everything will feel like it’s going against you. it’s at that point in time you have to know how to reach down, and dig deep to keep moving forward. the success you want may not come the first few times, or the first few hundred. The reality is most people that become successful, just figure out how to never give up.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Where do I even begin. As everyone knows, I have been a part of the notorious plain distribution series, where Bo Daddy Harris goes over some of the many problematic aspects n the industry. Every organization is going to have its issues, and I feel like entertainment in general tends to have a problem being a steward of authority. Similar to humanity, we see time and time again that the Dwarven Greed for gold is very much a real thing. As Lord of the Rings fans out there will tell you, that particular group of creatures had a particular fondness for greed. Our modern society in general treasures things that are temporary.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build a world with more compassion, understanding, and tolerance of other people. it’s absolutely horrendous , what we see happening between people of different backgrounds and beliefs. I’ve often pondered what the world would look like if we spend more time learning from each other than destroying each other. sadly, this continues to be a goal far too unobtainable. I hope everybody eats and does good.
