Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with JUDY GRIFFIN PhD. of online

JUDY GRIFFIN PhD. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

JUDY, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I immediately lose track of time in a garden and in undeveloped Nature. I think, feel, experience and respond differently than during a typical day. I maintain the present moment with intense observation. after being taken in by the arms of Mother Nature, I greet every plant, bird, butterfly and bee on an equal footing, avoiding wasps and other creatures who prefer their personal space.
Every plant communicates through their characteristics, usually allowing me to touch, smell and experience strengths and fragilities, as I breathe in their presence. Some feel majestic, others are expressing all of their lifeforce to burst into bloom with vivid colors.
When I lose track of time and what my mind is dictating to me, colors become brilliant, and the absence of busyness envelops my awareness into a peaceful persuasion of being one with all the beauty and goodness surrounding me. I become filled with ancient wisdom and mutual respect for all life. I feel like I can communicate all I have experienced and learned from the garden to others as every- day reality envelopes me like the sky at sunset.
I am now ready to share and complete my chores and goals for the day… until it’s time to step into a garden again.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My background is an old- fashioned naturopath and later a PhD. in nutrition. For 45 years I have created and developed AromaHealthTexas, a family-owned business with over 500 handcrafted products we organically grow and produce seasonally. Our products are designed to bring out the best in your health, beauty, and life experiences. Whether you want a special, natural fragrance, better health, overcome life’s challenges or complete the day without an outburst of exasperation, we have the best product designed for you.
I started my journey having twins with immune deficiencies and not expected to live. I used plants from my garden, information as a nutritionist and folk remedies from my ancestry to support their recovery and greater health. The pediatrician told me to do what I know how to do. I could grow, cook and make fragrance by distillation and enfleurage.
When my last child was born, he seemed completely normal, until he lost half his hearing at 2 years old. The nerves were damaged, and he was not expected to heal. But he did in the same ways as the twins but much faster. audiologists are still puzzled.
Since I was single, I developed a business from our gardens so I could spend more time at home. My kids were either too young or too old to leave alone.
I consulted, wrote research and developed aromatic products for hospitals and private practices. I taught part-time at universities from Texas to London, England. I taught and spoke locally and abroad. I was featured on radio shows I could plug into from home. I also had a Voice of America radio show after I published Mother Nature’s Herbal, still in publication learned from travels and teachers from many cultures. The documentary The Healing Power of Flowers was featured on TV channels and attracted an opportunity to make enfleurage’s and light natural fragrances for many people from all over the world with many wonderful folks at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
For over 20 years, I developed soft natural fragrances to support cancer and every patient interested at Baylor hospital in Dallas. I am still in touch with some of the former patients. Medical and complimentary health can work wonders together. Our Harmony blend was my signature blend. However, I made blends for stress, self- image, grief and over 80 other specific healing blends.
AromaHealthTexas products brings all this and more to benefit all who seek greatest health, beauty and fulfillment.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My seventh birthday was on Easter Sunday. I felt so happy yet serene and wished the day would never end. I stayed mostly to myself and enjoyed the peace I felt inside. I knew there would be something helpful I would accomplish. I had a purpose, and I felt like I could fly I was so happy.
Another reason I stayed to myself was because my birthday is on April Fool’s Day and everyone was waiting to play a trick on me. Maybe this helped me prepare for the years ahead.
However, that moment in time has fed me emotionally from 7 to 75 and counting.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me empathy, compassion and never to give up.
Suffering engaged my entire will power to succeed: heart, mind, and spiritual life. I can become fearful and sad, or I can stand up and do the next reasonable act to achieve my goal. I can look out for others who are suffering. I can feel what they are feeling because I have also suffered, sometimes lost, but never gave up.
I can encourage myself and others. Sometimes it is easier to take care of others than myself, but I also learn from others’ suffering and encouragement.
I am not sure I can easily define success, but I know it can be fleeting, or an illusion. I don’t think about success or being successful often. I think about having another chance to make life better, always wanting to benefit others.
We all enjoy being happy. What is better than helping others be happy? This is success and suffering taught me to be helpful, not hateful; stop judging and never give up on myself and others.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
My public version is more extroverted. I am very outgoing, often funny and entertaining when I teach and speak. I enjoy myself but soon want to be alone.
Privately, I am an introvert. I like to learn! I study, read, watch Italian t.v. to challenge my brain. I enjoy Nature, which is often alone with my dog. I am quiet because my mind is racing, not engaging in conversation. I continuously look for answers to all the questions that surface. I have few friends, but many acquaintances. I enjoy them all.
Most of my social interactions revolve around work, and who I am in public.
I have travelled to many places and countries, almost always alone. I often said, I am traveling through life as a tourist. I learn from talking and observing others as I await another adventure coming soon!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I work for results, not praise. If I needed praise, I would be in a different career.
I must give my best with every client or sale because I want to do all I can to help them. Every opportunity to help someone requires my best efforts. I continue to study at night to increase knowledge in my fields.
