We’re looking forward to introducing you to Georgia McClintock. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Georgia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
The last few months, I have been enjoying a nice one hour jog in the pool. This isn’t new for me, but when you are getting ready to birth something that’s going to change your life, it’s a big deal for my mental health. There are many health benefits from jogging in the pool, but it’s soothing for my mental health. I have a full-time job, manage three small businesses, and now getting ready to birth a new project. For me, it’s important that my mind, soul, spirit, and emotions are aligned for this new assignment. The water helps me to connect back to nature and God. I find peace when I am near water.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Georgia McClintock. I go by the entertainment name, Sophya D, the Radio Queen, Diva on the Mic or Soul Sista. I hear it all. I am the co-founders of the Sophya D Network, LLC, Sophya D Radio, LLC, and TS Creations, LLC. We are a husband and wife business. The Sophya D Network, LLC and TS Creations, LLC focuses on photography and videography. Sophya D Radio, LLC focuses on interviewing small and minority businesses to help promote their brand in the South Carolna, North Carolina, and Georgia areas. June 28th, we celebrated 15 years in business. This has been a wonderful journey. We are so grateful for all the community support.
In October 2024, Sophya D Radio, LLC became an Associate Member of the South Carolina Broadcasters Association (SCBA). I was extremely nervous about the whole process. I didn’t know if I was doing the right thing. I heard God say, “It’s time.” This was a big accomplishment to be a small independent radio show.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I think it was 2012 or 2013 when I felt powerful as a business owner. My husband’s co-worker and friend, at the time, Demetrius, was a big fan of the Sophya D Radio Show. He pulled my husband to the side one day and said, “I love what you two have with the show, but I want to see G on the screen.” My husband then said, “Well, you know G is all about traditional radio and using your imagination. Her ultimate goal is to be able to purchase air time and have a full radio show.” Demetrius said, “No! I want G to be the example that a plus size, dark skinned, woman can have their own radio show and brand. You don’t always have to be skinny and a smaller size.” When my husband told me about this conversation, I heard a lot wisdom. I chewed on that conversation for a while. I told my husband, “I believe TS Ceations, LLC will now partner with Sophya D Radio, LLC. We need you as a videographer.” From that moment, the show is still growing. We are now over 7K youtube subscribers.
People are going to say things about you at the end of the day. It is up to me how I respond. I typically pray for my haters. These negative folks don’t pay my bills or anything.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I found out quickly, my dreams were small. I almost gave up everything in 2018. That had to have been my worst business decision and experience in my life. When no one in your family has ever owned a business, you find out how small your dreams are and really how small minded you are. Not in a negative way, but when you haven’t experience the next level, it teaches you a thing or two. Like, the first time I filed for two federal trademarks. Legally, I cannot display the prior business name, but if you do some research, it’s all on the Internet. I fought hard and with all my might to keep my original business name. This is the name I discovered at 19 years old and was proud of my brand. Once I filed for the federal trademark, there was a multi-billion dollar brand that made it very clear the brands had too much likeness. It is a real experience when you are threatend with a federal lawsuit. After nine months of discussing the rebranding and developing a new name, it was success from there.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I am always going to be the real me. I don’t have time to be fake. It takes up too much energy to be fake. The way I am on my full-time job, as a business owner, and in the community is me. I have great morales and values, respect for myself, and great character.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I am like this on my full-time job and my business. I am naturally a happy person. I know my purpose in life and know that I am making a difference. I have a lillt pep to my step.
