An Inspired Chat with Reanne Kelly of Bellevue

Reanne Kelly shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Reanne, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Helping a colleague clear her acne after years of struggling with it! She’s an esthetician as well so she’s tried everything. It also affected her self esteem being in an industry where people think you have to have perfect skin! Brought so much joy to my heart to finally give her some hope!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I founded my own Medspa called Aesthete a couple years ago! I am an award winning licensed Master Aesthetician with over 15 years of experience. My instagram is completely dedicated to skincare and skin education, @the.master.aesthetician and currently has over 60k followers. My passion for skincare and education are my driving forces, followers and clients can feel that!

I have been a speaker and/or faculty at about 15 events and conferences. My passion for skincare education has led to writing articles for various publications and appearing on several podcasts.

Lastly, I’ve been awarded Aesthetician of the Year and Master Aesthetician of the Year!

I’ve had the honor of serving thousands of happy clients & have over 300 five star reviews online!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Finally getting an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder diagnosis, after over 15 years of suffering! The media portrays it all wrong, as well as some doctors. Since I don’t exhibit typical “normal” behavior (cleaning, counting, repetitive movements), it kept getting missed. It really put things in perspective and even though it’s a journey it really gave me peace of mind and really helped explain a lot! So now I’m a big advocate for OCD and educating on what it actually is and isn’t.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Gosh, many times! Even as recently as this year! But everything has brought me to where I want to be and whenever something challenging/devastating happens, something better always comes from it. Even if I can’t see it for a bit! There’s always going to be something, you just gotta dust off your crown and readjust it!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Where to begin. There is a lot of misinformation and fear mongering in the beauty industry right now. It’s actually gotten quite bad and companies use it as a marketing tactic because fear sells. Just because somebody has a degree or certification it does not mean they are an expert and no matter how confidently they’re giving out that information that also doesn’t make them an expert. The whole clean beauty/green beauty movement is total BS. Sunscreen do not cause cancer, sunscreens do not block vitamin D absorption and medical grade skincare isn’t a real thing.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely what I was born to do! Skincare is my legit passion!

I tried going to college and doing that whole thing, because I was supposed to. I was miserable and went into a deep depression. But when I finally left university and went to aesthetics school, my whole life changed for the better.
