Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Delphyne Taylor

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Delphyne Taylor. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Delphyne, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I have five grandchildren, who call me G-MA (three boys and two girls). I am very proud of all of them, but especially the 12 year old girl who just made the A squad for volleyball. She also made her school’s cheer team.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce our award-winning research firm to you and to provide an overview of the capabilities, expertise, and services we offer.

V&L Research is an Atlanta-based minority, woman-owned consultancy experienced in taking research to the next level to help clients grow their programs by developing inclusive and comprehensive strategies, designing quality and scalable solutions, and building rich program designs with measurable outcomes. Our expertise also includes group facilitation and facilitative leadership development.

V&L is dedicated to helping clients develop a knowledge base about the communities and populations they serve. We provide our clients with insights about their community and actionable solutions that address their needs and improve their quality of life. Our team is extremely competent and offers expertise in research and engaging key stakeholders, providers, and consumers. We have knowledge about issues, opportunities, and trends that only seasoned professionals could possess.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I have been in the market research industry for over forty years. At Rubbermaid, I was responsible for segmentation studies, market analysis; new product development, and coordination of market research projects. After moving to Atlanta, I became experienced on the supplier side and coordinated research for a variety of industries. For nearly thirty-three years, along with my business partner we have provided our expertise to clients of V&L Research and Consulting, Inc., a full-service market research firm with expertise in specialty markets. In addition, I am a skilled focus group moderator facilitating for various companies, both for-profit and non-profit.

I said all of this to say, for the most part, ALL of me has served its purpose, BUT I am not ready to release anything. What I am ready to do is to continue to serve as a mentor to others who would like to purpose a career in the Market Research industry or to become an entrepreneur.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2014. After a right mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and beast reconstruction, I tend to look at life a lot differently now. Yes, I am a Survivor and Thriver and suffering taught me resilience, empathy, and inner strength in ways that success alone cannot. It deepened my understanding of myself and others, fostering compassion and patience. Suffering also taught me the importance of perseverance, humility, and the value of humility, leading to personal growth that pure success might not offer. I try and live each day to the absolute fullest.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
That’s a thoughtful question. I can keep the answer very simple. Have you ever heard the phrase, “What you see is what you get?” I find that to be true for me. I don’t change from Public to Private or Business to Social. I try and always be my true authentic self.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone will most likely reflect my values, passions, and the impact I had on their lives. I hope people say that I was kind. compassionate, warm, and that I made people feel valued and heard. Further, I hope they tell others that I helped them fulfill their own dreams; How I aided others in their journeys and helped them realize their potential. In addition, I hope they share stories of my resilience and strength going through breast cancer; my ability to overcome challenges and adversity. I hope they say I was a beacon of inspiration for others.

I hope they share that I enjoyed life and liked to laugh, travel, shop and entertain in our home. I want others to say that I had principles, such as integrity, honesty, and perseverance. That I gave back to my community and made a positive impact on others..
