Megan Nager shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Megan, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Since 2018, I’ve been building my media and digital marketing company, Wake & Make Media—and it’s hands down one of the things I’m most proud of in both my career and my adult life. Growing up surrounded by entrepreneurs, I had a front-row seat to the ins and outs of running a business and embracing its highs and lows. Still, nothing could have fully prepared me for the wild ride of owning a company.
My partner, Corey, and I have poured our hearts into this business. Owning a media company has been a dream for both of us since we were kids, and while there have been plenty of moments we felt like quitting, we never let ourselves. Six years later, we’ve grown to serve more than 50 clients across the country, produced a reality TV show, launched multiple podcasts, created mini-series, hosted live events, and continue to expand as the future unfolds.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Megan Nager — an actor, comedian, bestselling author, and co-founder of Wake & Make Media, a Florida-based digital marketing and video production company. With over a decade in the entertainment industry, I’ve created everything from comedy sketches and web series to branded campaigns for clients like Amazon, Miss Universe, and Kevin Hart’s LOL Network. Today, I merge my passion for storytelling and humor with strategic marketing to help brands shine online.
Recently, I partnered with my local chamber of commerce to teach improv comedy to business owners, helping them improve communication, creativity, and confidence. I’m also producing and hosting a new project, the Pearl Coast Living Podcast, where I sit down with business owners to uncover the unique stories, passions, and ideas that make their brands stand out.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad has, without a doubt, been my greatest teacher when it comes to work and life. He started his career as a doctor, but quickly transitioned into becoming a serial entrepreneur — a path my grandpa also followed, so I guess you could say it runs in the family. From a young age, he instilled in me the importance of self-belief, courage, and authenticity.
He’s always shown me that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, and that success doesn’t have to come from a traditional 9-to-5 job. His example has made me believe that anyone can build their own company, brand, or business — as long as they’re willing to persevere and truly believe in themselves.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
One of the biggest things I’ve changed my mind about is my definition of success. I’ve always been incredibly hard on myself — even as a kid, if I didn’t get an A on a project, I saw it as a failure or proof that I wasn’t “good enough.” That mindset followed me into adulthood, and when I first entered the entertainment industry, I believed that if I didn’t win an Oscar or become an overnight success, then I was failing. I had a rigid picture of what success looked like, and anything outside of that felt like falling short.
Over time, though, and with more experience in film and entertainment, I discovered a whole new perspective. I realized I could create my own content, set my own rules, and build my own business. I didn’t have to wait for someone else — or an entire industry — to validate me as “successful.” That shift has changed everything.
I still haven’t won an Oscar (and I wouldn’t complain if I did, lol), but today, success means something entirely different to me: having a happy, healthy family, and the freedom to shape my own path and create work that truly resonates with me.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I believe that God — or the universe, or whatever higher power you resonate with — plays a role in everything. When something doesn’t work out, I trust that it’s for a reason, even if I’m disappointed in the moment. I remind myself to stay confident in my path. There’s a Kabbalistic principle that teaches that God is present in everything we experience — the people who enter our lives, the highs and lows, all of it. That perspective helps me trust that whatever happens is meant to happen, and it’s part of a bigger plan.
This belief has been a huge support system in both my career and personal life. I naturally tend to feel anxious and want to control every detail, but when I view the world through that Kabbalistic lens, I’m able to relax and trust that I’m where I’m supposed to be.
I also believe that every single person has a unique skill or gift meant to be shared with the world, which is why comparing yourself to others is such a trap. I’ve definitely been guilty of falling into comparison — it’s normal, especially in an industry as competitive as entertainment — but I try to remind myself that no one else is on my exact path. I have a mission and a purpose that’s mine alone, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
While my company, Wake & Make Media, is thriving and continuing to grow, I know we’ve only just scratched the surface of its potential — potential I believe will fully unfold over the next 7–10 years. We began as a digital marketing agency, but our vision has always included building a robust media division that produces films, shows, podcasts, and more. We’ve started making that shift, but developing a true media company — especially without millions in funding — is a slow burn. I’m confident, though, that the foundation we’re laying now will pay off in a big way down the road.
