Tamara Washington shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Tamara, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, my biggest source of joy has been prioritizing my health. I’ve built a workout routine I actually look forward to, and I’ve been having a blast learning how to cook healthy meals. It’s been equal parts energizing and rewarding to see and feel the difference.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Tamara Washington, Founder and CEO of Boom Media and Image Consulting and Boom Effect Entertainment and Sports. I’ve built my career at the intersection of storytelling, strategy, and image-building, helping brands, public figures, professional athletes, and organizations craft powerful narratives that connect with people in meaningful ways. What makes my work unique is that I don’t just focus on the external; I dig deep into the ‘why’ behind the story so everything we create is authentic and impactful.
In this season of my career, I’m being far more intentional about sharing me in my work, opening up about my own journey with endometriosis, surviving cancer, and navigating mental health (someone who has overcome suicide). These experiences have shaped how I lead, how I connect, and how I create campaigns that don’t just look good but truly resonate.
Right now, I’m working on a range of exciting projects, from high-profile sports and entertainment campaigns to launching new initiatives that merge purpose with visibility. At the core of everything I do is a commitment to helping others shine because when they win, we all win.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
In my experience, the bonds between people don’t usually break because of one big blow-up, they weaken in the quiet moments when communication fades. A text that isn’t returned, a conversation we avoid, a feeling we never express… those little gaps add up. Over time, they turn connection into distance.
What restores those bonds is the opposite…intentional, heartfelt communication. I’ve seen it in my own life and work: when we choose to listen without interrupting, to speak honestly without attacking, and to seek understanding instead of winning the argument, something shifts. Walls come down, trust starts to rebuild, and the relationship often comes back even stronger than before. Communication isn’t just how we share words, it’s how we show we still care
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering became my greatest teacher. It stripped away the noise and made me face myself, my faith, my fears, and my limits. In those moments, I leaned on God more than ever, and my relationship with Him became unshakable. I learned who truly loved me for me, and who only stood by when life looked easy. Suffering forced me to dig deep, to find a strength and creativity I didn’t know I had, and to rebuild from the ground up. It showed me that resilience isn’t just about surviving; it’s about rising every single time, with a fire that no setback can extinguish.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is integrity, always staying true to who I am. In every relationship, project, and opportunity, I believe in doing what’s right even when no one’s watching. It’s about keeping my word, honoring my faith, and staying true to my principles, no matter the pressure to compromise; refusing to compromise my character for convenience or approval. For me, integrity isn’t just a personal standard, it’s the foundation for trust, respect, and lasting impact. I’ve learned that when you know your values, you don’t have to chase validation. you attract the right people and opportunities by simply being consistent in who you are.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
The light I’ve been dimming is my own creativity. For a long time, I waited for others to give me opportunities instead of trusting myself to create them. I held back my ideas, my vision, and my voice, thinking someone else had to validate them. But through projects like Cocktails 4 A Cause, a fundraising event I originally created for my celebrity clients, I’ve learned the power of sharing my story during this time of taking the negative and turning it into a positive. It’s not just changing lives; it’s allowing me to do what I love, use my creativity fully, and inspire others to do the same. That’s when my light truly shines.
