We’re looking forward to introducing you to Bobby Couch. Check out our conversation below.
Bobby, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I believe many entrepreneurs secretly struggle with finding stability; both in their routines and their finances. Navigating the ebbs and flows of business is only half the battle. What’s rarely discussed is the mental health tolls and the silent fears of having it all, and losing it all.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Bobby Couch a Brooklyn-based Art Director, and Creative. I’m passionate about creating experiences where fashion, culture, and community coexist, whether it be through luxury styling with Thou NYC or spotlighting Black and BIPOC creators on ReelLife Social in meaningful ways. My work goes beyond garments it’s about representation, storytelling, and building communities where people feel seen. Right now, I’m deep in planning Black Fashion Expo’s 2026 season while also reimagining what my personal brand is in New York’s creative scene.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has to go is my “villain arc” mindset believed it or not there used to be a part of me that treated every challenge like a rap beef. Being a KenBarb and growing up on Nicki Minaj’s quick-witted clap-backs made me sharp, but it also made me reactive. I’ve learned that in life and business, not every disagreement needs a winner and a loser. Sometimes the real power play is taking the high road, even when you don’t feel like you’re wrong.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, for a while it felt like almost every day. But when those moments hit, I pause and reflect on how far I’ve already come. That reminder that I’ve pushed through so much already makes it clear that giving up now isn’t an option.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely, but think of it as the PG-13 trailer, not the full director’s cut. The people close to me know my humor can be dry and a little dark, so the public gets the polished, society approved edit.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that I am light and I never have to dim it to let others shine alongside me. My name, Bobby, literally means “bright fame” and “born a star,” and I carry that truth in both personal and professional life.
