Story & Lesson Highlights with Christopher Corr of Schiller Park

We recently had the chance to connect with Christopher Corr and have shared our conversation below.

Christopher, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I have been focusing on maintaining a consistent practice of working out, getting active, and most of the time playing basketball. I feel that it is a great way to get out (especially when working remote), connect with new people, stay healthy, and of course have a little competition with playing sports and growing those skills.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
To give a quick background on myself, I have been a self taught graphic designer for a little over a decade. What started out as a hobby of me making YouTube thumbnails for myself, over the years has turned into a career. Through the years, I have worked with a wide variety of clients in a wide variety of industries, and am constantly looking to not only improve my work but leave a lasting mark. Currently, I am focusing on working in the sports industry, growing within it, and leaving a mark wherever I can. My goal in every project that I approach is to be unique, provide a solution, and provide quality work.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Experience. I believe over the years, nothing has taught me more about work and striving towards your goals, than the experiences themselves. Throughout a career, and life, there are many ups and downs, clients come and go, but through each one of those experiences, there are things to learn and grow from.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There for sure was a point in my career where I was struggling heavily. Not only was I struggling outside of work but it was leaking into my work and how I perform. For a great amount of time, I was struggling to create anything, and obviously in this career, that is a huge issue to have. But, it is something that hits a lot of designers at various points in their careers, a creative block. In those times, it truly feels like you can’t design, or nothing is up to your standards, or there just is no motivation to even open up a design program and start. However, in these times, it is important to find other things to do that you can accomplish, that then rebuilds that confidence. For example, for me, it was getting back into a consistent workout routine. Once I accomplished that, I was able to rebuild some of that confidence, and dive right back into designing with a rebuilt passion and drive.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe my closest friends would say that my brand and my work that I put out, is very close and important to me. Throughout my career, I have always made sure to approach every project with the utmost professionalism and passion, and always keep in mind that my name and brand is connected to everything that I do. With that said, I take great pride in all of my work, and my interactions with every client so that I can keep my brand/name in healthy condition, and provide greater foundations for my career to excel.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people tell a story of me striving to do all that I can. Whether that be within my work, within my fitness journey, or outside of this. I hope to not only have a successful career and physically stay healthy, but also hope to leave lasting impacts on those around me. I hope others remember me for being caring and selfless, and helping those when I can. I hope that others remember me for bringing joy and laughter to moments when needed, and being there for them in less joyful times, to be a shoulder.
