Kika Claude’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Kika Claude and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kika, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I have been listening to different music genres that I may have overlooked before. It’s been awesome to hear various international music artists. Music truly speaks to my soul and brings me joy.
I also started being a bit more serious about gardening. It’s a learning process, but I am enjoying it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kika, the person behind “Sometimes Kika Travels”. I’m a part-time traveler, storyteller, and travel advisor who’s explored almost 70 countries since 2009.
My brand is all about sharing authentic travel experiences, especially from the perspective of someone who grew up in Haiti and speaks multiple languages. What makes my work special is my focus on cultural connection, language, and the real stories behind each destination, not just the typical tourist spots.
As a travel advisor, I curate personalized trips for others, helping them create meaningful and unique travel experiences.
Right now, I am focusing my travel content on articles to inspire others to explore the world with curiosity, and always an open heart.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents saw me clearly before I could fully see myself. Growing up, they believed in my potential even when I doubted it. (They still believe that I have a lot more to offer!)
Their support and encouragement helped shape my confidence and fueled my love for exploration and learning. They taught me resilience and the importance of following my passions, which has been the foundation of my journey not just in travel, but in life. Because of them, I am able to just be. Their unconditional love and support allows me to pursue my passions.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
A few years ago, I went through one of the most painful experiences of my life. For a long time, I felt ashamed and isolated myself. It was like everything I had planned for my life came crashing down, and I felt like I was going “off track”.
But eventually, I realized that hiding my pain was only keeping me stuck. And I had to remind myself that life doesn’t always go as planned, but I had to keep going and adjust to the curveballs.
Choosing to face it and speak about it honestly was the beginning of turning that pain into power. Through healing, I found strength in vulnerability and began living more fully and authentically on my own terms.
It also lit a deeper purpose in me: to do more, to help others feel seen, and to use my voice and work as a storyteller and travel advisor to create meaningful, transformative experiences for others on their own journeys.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is connection; deep, honest connection with people, cultures, and experiences. They know I am most alive when I’m learning, growing, and seeing the world.. They would also say I care deeply about making others feel seen and understood.
Family and close friendships mean everything to me. I value authenticity, meaningful conversations, and moments that leave a mark, whether it’s through travel, or simply being present with the people I love.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I would stop second-guessing myself and playing small.
I would stop saying yes to things that do not align with my purpose or bring me joy.
Most importantly of all, I would stop going to my “day job” and pour my energy fully into my blog and travel business because that’s where my heart truly is.
I wouldn’t waste any more time on my fears (fear of judgment or failure). I would let go of the pressure to be perfect and focus instead on being present.
Life is too short to keep dimming your light when you were meant to shine.
