We’re looking forward to introducing you to Michael Reinmiller. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Michael, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
This summer, I have been proud of several personal achievements, including spending the summer with my son and watching him complete all the “Dog Man” books, “Cat Kid Comic Club,” and “Captain Underpants” series. Additionally, I am proud of my wife successfully managing her new job with confidence and ease.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an experienced professional photographer and videographer based in Lincoln, Nebraska, with over twenty years of industry experience. Since 2001, I have contributed to a diverse range of projects, including event coverage for the Cornhusker Marching Band, weddings, and large-scale events such as Broadway shows and live appearances by the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson and state politicians. I am known for my strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Since 2014, I have also expanded my professional expertise by teaching photography and video editing. I have led summer camps and after-school programs focused on techniques such as long exposure photography, framing, and lighting.
Beyond my professional pursuits, I am dedicated to serving my community. I have been actively involved in the Little Free Pantries initiative in Lincoln and previously served as President of Fresh Start Home, a shelter for women experiencing homelessness. Additionally, I have volunteered as a mentor with the Teammates program for over ten years.
Personally, I value spending quality time with my wife and son, who are my primary sources of inspiration.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I am grateful to have had the support and guidance of several mentors throughout my career, including Mr. Rogers, Jack James, my family, and my sister. My years at Lincoln High School were particularly impactful, as the teachers not only demonstrated excellence in their craft but also served as valuable mentors during my time there.
Subsequently, I worked at the University of Nebraska’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts as the Digital Arts Support Technician. This role provided a remarkable opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading professionals in the arts industry, and I fully absorbed their expertise and knowledge.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
As a small business owner, my greatest concern has often been self-doubt: questioning whether I can succeed. I have come to recognize that this inner voice can be unhelpful. Through experience, I have learned to trust in my abilities and to take decisive action. If I believe I cannot achieve something, it is unlikely to come to fruition. Conversely, if I am committed to making it happen, I can find a way to do so. I wish I had understood this mindset earlier in my career.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The authentic version of myself is reflected in my public presence. I am genuinely invested in my community and committed to producing high-quality photos and videos. I also prioritize being a supportive husband and an attentive father. I strive to show kindness and professionalism to everyone I encounter.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were possible, I would dedicate myself to ensuring that every individual on the planet is respected, cared for, and supported. I often wonder how we have advanced as a species despite ongoing challenges related to human dignity and compassion.
One of my favorite quotes is:
“The love of one’s country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?”
