Story & Lesson Highlights with Cherrie McRae of New York City

We recently had the chance to connect with Cherrie McRae and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cherrie, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day? Begins at 3am with a Prayer App. I Listen for about 30mins then move on detailing 3 things I am grateful for in my Gratitude Journal, a Glass full of water then to a few floor exercises to get my blood pumping.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello There! I’m Cherrie “Cher” McRae. A native south Floridian. I am a Professional TV/Film/Theatre performer with 60+ screen credits from Daytime TV to Network Dramas. I am also Owner/Operator of Film Production and Re-production, Written Write Pictures, LLC. This platform, formed in 2019, has afforded me the opportunity to operate as a triple threat in the Independent Film Sector; Writing, Producing and Directing 7 of my very own short film projects, cinematic visuals, lifestyle shoots, roundtable documentaries, and Marketing & Promo Ads as well as collaborating with other reputable brands. serving in Executive Producing capacities providing outsourced multi-media services, consultation & managerial resources to several various brands and businesses, vendors, networks, not-for-profit communities and miscellaneous organizations.

There are several very interesting traits that come with being an industry professional. The list is a mile long, but one that comes to mind is the ability to be both flexible and spontaneous. If you are the type of individual that shys away from impromptu activity or inconsistency and ambiguity knocks you off your square, then this is probably not the ideal occupation for you, lol. Being malleable in this profession is one of the most valuable practices one will put into play, inevitably.

I most recently wrapped two back-to-back Studio projects (NDA’d sorry) and in post-production for a short film project produced by my Production company Written Write Pictures. All are welcome to connect to my journey with those details as they unfold.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Such a vividly, sweet memory this answer! The moment I graduated from College obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

My early adult years were rippled with good and indifferent occurrences. One major ripple was having my 1st and only born son, Cj my Junior year in College. There was so much emotional chaos during that season of my life. So many major decisions resting on my shoulders. One of which, was should I continue in pursuit of my Undergraduate degree? Or focus on my young child and my families well being? After deliberating the pros and cons for about a year, I finally dived back into the process, re-enrolled, completed my remaining credits, closed out my final semester and walked across that stage with my little boy as my #1 Cheerleader screaming in the crowd …Yayyyy Mommy!!!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I can utter one kind thing to my younger self it would be this, “Taking the short cut in life is no cut at all, and ultimately, leads to a longer path.” Maturity and life experiences has had many of us declare, “If I knew then what I know now I would…”

My stance is no different, but I am extremely grateful that I am finally at a more seasoned stage in my life where I look to do the hard things first, and follow-up with the easier things/steps (or those things that appear easy) later. I now hold myself accountable to a Gold, better yet, Platinum standard.

So again, if I were to echo anything to my younger self, it would be to stop looking for the short cut…that the real reward is ingrained in the Process.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
It’s so funny, I just mentioned this to a friend the other day. Easy answer. My parents!

I admire my parents character, because they, collectively, stand on business but with poise and integrity. They’re not loud and rambunctious people. Oftentimes, when they speak (my dad speaks up a tad more than my mom but…) people listen because they don’t always make it their point to have an opinion about Ev-ver-ry-thing. One’s decision is the others decision and if they disagree they take it behind closed doors toss up a few pros and cons and come back as a unified front. Lastly, they are the least judgmental people I know, and “IF” they just so happen to have an opinion about anyone’s lifestyle you’ll probably never know UNLESS you are apart of their inner circle.

It’s a FACT! My Mother and Father are my most accurate portrayal(s) of an admirable character, they stand in their unique power, yet make no announcements regarding that stance.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I could not wait for the opportunity to answer this question on large platform (c’mon manifesting, lol) Legacy is both an action item and sentiment I have been amplifying for quite some time now. It’s easily a favorite forethought and afterthought, simultaneously.

The Story? I want others to Tell? Cherrie LIVED…!!!

….Cherrie LIVED! When life shook her loose like a snow globe…she took the remnants, and pieced it all back together again. She didn’t play victim, she didn’t shrink; she didn’t ride anyone else’s curtails. She worked tirelessly scooping every WIN she earned out of the mud, working excuses-free! She left traces of herself…a Lioness of Elegance, Exploration, Intelligence and Grace!
