Jane Elzinga’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jane Elzinga. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jane, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Public speaking! In the last week or so, I have been invited to speak at THREE different events. These are live in-person and one virtual summits. I am terrified of public speaking, but I jumped at the opportunity to face my fear. Even just answering this question has me thinking about the next few months, and I’m already nervous!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Jane Elzinga, the founder of Solstice Collective, a web design and social media agency that helps entrepreneurs show up with confidence and clarity online. We specialize in custom Squarespace websites, brand-aligned content, and strategic social media management that actually moves the needle so our clients can focus on what they do best.

Solstice Collective was born out of a desire to create more ease for small business owners. As an entrepreneur myself, I know how overwhelming it can be to wear all the hats. I wanted to build a studio that not only delivered beautiful, high-converting websites and social media strategies but also felt like a true partner in our clients’ growth.

What makes our brand unique is our emphasis on clarity, communication, and empowerment. We don’t just design websites or write captions—we help our clients understand the why behind their digital presence, so they feel confident managing their platforms long after the project ends.

Right now, we’re focused on expanding our offerings to serve even more creative business owners, including new tools, templates, and “Website in a Day” intensives for folks who need results fast. Whether you’re launching a new business, pivoting your brand, or just need a digital refresh—we’re here to make your online presence feel like you (but elevated).

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Without a doubt, my parents, Roz and Mike, saw me clearly before I ever saw myself. They always recognized my potential and power, even in moments when I couldn’t see it yet. They were incredibly encouraging and supportive, but never pushy; they let me choose my own path while still making sure I didn’t miss out on any opportunity that could help me grow.

Both of them were business owners and entrepreneurs, so I grew up watching what it means to build something from the ground up with integrity, grit, and heart. I learned so much from their example, not just about entrepreneurship, but about showing up fully, trusting yourself, and believing in what you bring to the table.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time when I came very close to giving up. Before my dad passed, he was really sick, and I was juggling a lot. I was managing both of my businesses, completely distracted, navigating client losses, dropping the ball, and receiving some tough feedback that really shook my confidence. I felt like I had hit a breaking point. I questioned whether I was cut out for entrepreneurship and seriously considered walking away to work for someone else.

But deep down, I knew that wasn’t what my dad would have wanted for me. And even in that season of doubt, my mom and my husband never stopped cheering me on. Their belief in me gave me the strength to keep going. It took time (about a year to really regroup), but I slowly picked up the pieces and rebuilt something even more aligned and fulfilling than before. That chapter taught me that resilience doesn’t always look glamorous, but it’s where some of the most powerful growth happens.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
An important truth, I believe, one that not everyone agrees with, is that not every client is the right fit. And that’s okay. I’ve learned that it’s better to walk away from a project than to compromise your boundaries, your energy, or your values just for a paycheck.

There’s this pressure, especially when you’re growing a business, to say yes to everything. But I truly believe that alignment matters. If a client doesn’t respect your process, pushes past boundaries, or simply isn’t a values match, it’s more than okay to turn the opportunity down. In fact, it usually creates space for the right clients to find you. Business gets a lot more fulfilling (and sustainable) when you trust your gut, not just your bank account.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m truly unreachable, when there’s no service, no Wi-Fi, and nothing buzzing in my pocket. Those rare moments of complete disconnection help me reconnect with myself. Whether I’m in nature, on a trip, or just off the grid for a while, being fully present without digital distractions brings a kind of peace that’s hard to find in the day-to-day chaos of entrepreneurship.
