Edward Blair II of Battle Creek on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Edward Blair II and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Edward, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been finding a great deal of joy in the progress I’ve made in my sports casting classes. I’ve been learning new skills in sports media that not only challenge me, but also make me excited for where my career is headed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Edward Blair II—a sportscaster, sportswriter, and Production Assistant for Fox Sports. I cover Big Ten football and basketball for Sports Illustrated and Last Word On College Football, bringing a former coach’s perspective to my work. I alap cover WNBA and NBA for sports illustrated. Outside of journalism, I’m an independent music artist with over 5.9 million streams and host of The Ed Blair Podcast. Everything I do is rooted in connecting with people and telling stories that bring fans closer to the sports they love.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is my marriage to my wife, Sierra Shanelle Blair. She’s been my greatest source of love, support, and encouragement, helping me see my worth even in moments when I doubted myself. Her belief in me has pushed me to dream bigger, work harder, and become a better man in every area of my life.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
At the start of this summer, I made the important decision to step away from coaching high school football, middle school basketball (both boys and girls), and girls’ track and field. It wasn’t easy—I’ve always loved coaching—but I realized that to truly excel in my senior year of college and make the most of my opportunities writing for sports companies, I needed to give those pursuits my full attention. It was a shift in priorities that’s already paying off.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my wife, Sierra Shanelle Blair, for her character above all else. She goes above and beyond in everything she does, and her impact on our community is rooted in pure intentions and authenticity. Sierra teaches Girls and Empowerment as an elective, is a former world culture and climate teacher, and coaches middle school tennis. She also serves on the board for Safe Place, advocating for domestic violence survivors and sharing her survivor testimony at speaking engagements. Her strength is nothing short of heroic, and despite the many obstacles life has thrown her way, she continues to inspire me as my spiritual guide, my partner, and one of the most remarkable people I know.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m spending quality time with my wife or when I’m immersed in something sports-related—whether that’s covering a game, playing, or simply watching my favorite teams compete. Those moments allow me to fully relax, be present, and enjoy what I love most.
