We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Sybil Sloan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sybil, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me is a blend of structure and flexibility. I usually start my mornings early with Manifestation, taking some quiet time to reflect and set my intentions for the day. After that, my day often includes meetings with colleagues, mentoring sessions with students or young professionals, and time dedicated to research or writing.
Throughout the day, I prioritize staying connected with my team, whether that’s through collaborative projects, brainstorming sessions, or simply checking in to offer support. I also make it a point to carve out time for reading and staying updated on the latest developments in my field.
In the afternoons, I might be involved in community outreach, participating in panels, or working on initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion. I find these activities energizing and essential to my mission.
Evenings are reserved for family, self-care, and sometimes a bit more reading or writing if inspiration strikes. I strive to maintain a balance between my professional responsibilities and personal well-being, which I believe is key to sustained success and fulfillment.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I often believed that I was not enough—that I had to work extra hard to prove my worth or to fit in. That feeling shaped many of my early experiences. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that my value isn’t defined by external validation or comparison to others. I now know that I am enough just as I am, and that embracing my authentic self is my greatest strength.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time when I almost gave up—after the second divorce. That period was incredibly difficult for me, both emotionally and mentally. I questioned my decisions, my worth, and my ability to move forward. It felt like I was carrying the weight of disappointment and uncertainty about the future. I gave up on God and thought God had given up on me.
But in that challenging moment, I realized that giving up wasn’t the answer. Instead, I leaned on my faith, my support system, and the belief that every setback can be a setup for a comeback. I allowed myself to feel the pain, but I also made a conscious choice to keep going, to heal, and to rebuild. That experience taught me resilience and reminded me that even in our lowest moments, there is hope and the possibility for new beginnings. I decided to BREAKTHROUGH MY NOW, because NOW spelled backwards is WON. SO, I WON.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Absolutely, I’d be happy to share about that part of my journey. My commitment to becoming a Judge has been unwavering, even though I faced significant setbacks—most notably, not passing the bar exam on multiple occasions. Each time I received that disappointing news, it was a blow to my confidence and a real test of my resolve. There were moments when I questioned whether I was on the right path or if I should give up altogether.
But deep down, I knew that my purpose was bigger than any single setback. I reminded myself why I started this journey—to serve my community, to ensure fairness and justice, and to be a voice for those who are often unheard. I leaned on my faith, my support system, and my belief in perseverance. I studied harder, sought out mentors, and learned from each attempt.
Those experiences taught me resilience and humility. They also made me more empathetic to others who face obstacles on their own paths. I never lost sight of my goal, and I refused to let temporary failures define my future. My journey is a testament to the power of persistence, and I hope it encourages others to keep going, no matter how many times they have to try. Therefore, I continue to journey to judgeship and when I become a Judge I will come back and share.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply—perhaps more than most—is that every single part of my journey is necessary. Even the moments that felt like setbacks or disappointments have played a vital role in shaping who I am today. I truly believe that God uses it all; nothing in my life has been wasted. The challenges, the triumphs, the waiting periods, and even the failures have all served a purpose. They’ve taught me resilience, compassion, and faith. I’ve learned to trust that there is meaning in every experience, and that each step is preparing me for what’s next. That perspective gives me peace and strength, knowing thats my journey, with all of its twists and turns.
