An Inspired Chat with Marquita Livingston of District Heights

We recently had the chance to connect with Marquita Livingston and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Marquita, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
Most of the time I don’t feel that I deserve the amount of love I pour into the world. When I worked at Starbucks, customers would give me gifts for special occasions (birthdays, etc.) because they appreciated the motivational messages I would write on their cups. My goal was to make someone’s day a little better, but little did I know, they were making mine. Times when the gift cards brought dinner because I didn’t have enough money to buy groceries. Or when a customer gave me just enough money to buy my son a pair of shoes when I didn’t have the money to buy them. They helped me more than I feel like I helped them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Samiramarquita is more than a brand-it’s a movement. It’s a lifestyle based on experience, trauma and truth, designed for people who crave authenticity. Whether through evocative books, immersive couples kits, or soul feeling speaker events, Samiramarquita stands for the power of healing, emotional freedom, and truth telling.

I created Samiramarquita out of survival, silence, and wanting to share my story. As a sexual abuse survivor, and a seeker for inner peace, I began writing to release the pain I carried. What started as therapy became my calling.

Samiramarquita doesn’t just create content, it creates experiences that is unapologetic, brave, bold, and beautiful. Every book, product and talk is connected to an emotional journey of self healing, and growth. I’m not here to sugarcoat life. I am here to say what needs to be said and if you’re brave enough to listen, you just might find your own truth buried in mine.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I remember logging on for work and saying to myself “I can’t do this anymore.” At the time I was having health issues and felt like life was in control, not me. I felt like my world was slowly sinking. The migraines keep coming, the late night cries wouldn’t stop, and the ringing in my ears made me think I was going crazy. I went to every specialist who could not tell me the cause but wanted to give me a solution. And I couldn’t find anyone who shared my pain. It was that moment, that day, I decided to take back my life. It was that moment I decided to find inner peace. Not because I wanted to but because if I didn’t, there’s a chance I wouldn’t be here talking to you. I started to value my life, take back my control and look forward to the future.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me patience, gratitude, and humility. In life or business, everything feels urgent. Bills are due now not tomorrow. Kids need food now, not tomorrow. Suffering made me appreciate the small things and have patience for the wins coming. Suffering shows strength that endures. It reveals the true you where success might inflate, suffering refines. Suffering doesn’t just shape your character, it births wisdom and storm survival. The kind that doesn’t need permission to shine.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe in the power of mental transformation. Not just healing from trauma but unlocking who we are meant to be.

I am committed to helping people confront generational trauma, rewrite their narrative and shift from survival mode to natural wholeness.

Mental health and holistic healing isn’t just therapy or a diagnosis, it’s how we think, how we love, and how we see ourselves. I want to start a movement that makes holistic wellness normal, necessary and non-negotiable.

No matter how long it takes, I will continue to show up, in speaking truth, writing books, and spreading love, until people stop hiding from themselves and start becoming themselves.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
This question was hard because I battle with this everyday. Not so much that I want to be praised, but I want people to listen, take heed and apply what I am telling them to their everyday lives. I have already given up so much and will do it again if it means I’m saving lives. I owe my best, I owe my sacrifice if it means changing the minds in the world. If it means altering the trajectory of a child’s life. The work I do is often not praised but it’s worth it.
