We recently had the chance to connect with Essence Henderson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Essence, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
In a short answer I learn from everyone . I learn from my clients, my family, my community. I pay attention to how they handle pressure, pivot with grace, and push through when it’s not pretty.
I’m learning from both ends of the spectrum—everyday people and powerhouse entrepreneurs. I watch how single moms stretch a dollar and still show up with grace. I take notes from side hustlers making magic in silence. That kind of resilience teaches you more than any course ever could. But I’m also studying the moves of successful founders—people like { Nicki Minaj, Melissa Butler, Kai Cenat, Rihanna} who’ve built something real and stayed true to themselves while doing it. I don’t just watch what they build—I study how they move, how they lead, and how they protect their peace along the way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Essence Henderson the founder of E4Essentials, a skincare brand dedicated to creating effective, inclusive products designed to meet the unique needs of diverse skin types. Our approach is rooted in listening closely to our community to develop solutions that are simple, purposeful, and deliver real results.
What sets E4Essentials apart is our commitment to authenticity and accessibility. We believe skincare should empower, not overwhelm, which is why every product is thoughtfully crafted to support healthy, radiant skin without unnecessary complexity.
Currently, I’m focused on expanding our product line while building a supportive community that encourages people to embrace their skin with confidence and pride while saving the planet.
“Plant-based skincare that delivers.”
.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of my earliest memories of feeling powerful was when a woman going through postpartum messaged me saying my skincare made her feel like herself again.
She told me she’d been feeling disconnected — tired, overwhelmed, and just not like the woman she used to see in the mirror. But after using the products, she said she started to feel beautiful again, even if just in small moments. That made me realize: power isn’t always about big wins — sometimes it’s about making someone feel seen, whole, and worthy. That’s when I understood the real impact of what I was building.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Some wounds come like storms—unexpected and strong enough to shake your whole world. I’ve faced those moments of feeling invisible or out of place, like the calm after a storm feels far away.
Healing has been a gentle, ongoing process—like watching a garden grow after the rain. It’s about giving myself grace, patience, and the space to bloom at my own pace. Building E4Essentials has been part of that healing—a way to nurture not just my skin, but my spirit. Even when the storms come, there’s always room for new light and growth.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. The public version of me is very much the real me — just more focused. What you see with my skincare brand is who I truly am at the core: passionate about wellness, intentional about simplicity, and deeply invested in helping people feel confident in their skin. Of course, like anyone, I have layers. There are parts of me that are private — the quiet moments, the behind-the-scenes struggles — but even those influence the way I show up publicly. I built this brand on honesty and care, and I don’t believe in putting on a mask just to sell a product. What you see is real. It’s rooted in purpose, and it’s personal.
I’m proud to announce our brand-new web series, “Building the Brand,” launching in 2026 exclusively on EssenceTVV — my official YouTube channel.
This series is all about collaborating with bold business owners and creatives who are making waves in their industries. Together, we’re talking strategy, storytelling, skincare, and what it really takes to build a brand with purpose in today’s world.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes — I can finally say I’m tap dancing to work, and it’s one of the most fulfilling feelings I’ve ever experienced.
Building E4Essentials Skincare from the ground up has given me a new kind of excitement. It’s more than just skincare — it’s purpose. I remember the early days, trying out so many different products myself, just dreaming of helping people feel seen and confident in their skin.
Every new product launch, every review from someone who finally feels good without makeup — those moments keep me energized. There are still long nights and tough decisions, but the passion outweighs the pressure.
There was a time in my life when work felt like survival. Now, it feels like alignment.
