We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kathleen Busching. Check out our conversation below.
Kathleen, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I start my day with meditation. This helps remove me from my thoughts, calms my nervous system and allows me to access inner guidance. Then during the spring and summer I tend to plants out on my balcony, before eating my breakfast. It just helps me start my day on a peaceful note.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My background is in healthcare. I have been an occupational assiatant for 24 years. I was diagnosed with Lyme in 2010 and it took me 5 years to regain my health. During this period of seeking answers I found myself looking into things I previously would not be receptive to. In the end the experience changed the way I viewed myself, my body and healthcare. I started Inner Lotus Wellness LLC to assist people in accessing their bodies relaxation response and being mindfull. From this place it is easier to access our inner guidance. I beleive this is where the true healing and wellness reside.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe what breaks the bonds between people is when we see each other as different and separate. We have surface differences, but at our core we are all the same. The part that remains when the body perishes. The human body is energy and has different forms. Chemical that coverts food to ATP the primary energy currency, thermal which regulates our body temperature (through processes like sweating when hot or shivering when cold) and mechanical with our movements. Energy never dies it just changes form. We are energy. All bodies function by the same mechanisms. Differences are on the surface level only. We start to look at these surface differences and forget on a deeper level we are all related in a sense. I believe when we remember this, we could heal things from a deeper level. When we approach things from a place of connection we are speaking to a different part of the person. It can be hard, because we all have our triggers, but a part of us exists beyond them.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not being enough has held me back. Asking myself am I getting this right in all areas of my life and causing hesitation. Do I have something of value to offer, despite positive feedback. Over analyzing and questioning my initial reaction or listening to what others think I should be doing. In actuality I believe I am not enough in the singular. I believe we were supposed to function together. No one person having it all. I believe we each bring our gifts to the table. No one is without a gift. Often the gift happens so naturally we don’t even see it as a gift. I have finally learned to keep going despite the mind’s trepidation, when at my core I feel it is the right direction.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The healthcare/ Wellness industry could frame health as being found outside the individual. All we have to do is see a certain doctor, practitioner, take a pill, get a certain treatment or follow many different recommendations and good health will be found. I now believe true health lies within the individual and has to be let in. We all want health on a conscious level, but sometimes things held within the subconscious can be hindering recovery. I know this was true with me when I was overcoming Lyme. I believe each of us has an intuitive sense and when we listen from this place we will be guided in the right direction. What is right for one might be wrong for other. We have to see what resonates with us or where we feel drawn. Healthcare/ Wellness should not be a cookie cutter approach. It must be tailored to the individual needs and be guided by the individual.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am outside and in nature. I like to go for hikes, walks in my neighborhood and grow plants on my balcony. I love to see what grows in different climates when I go on vacation. Nature is something that could bring me fully into the moment. I feel like I breath deeper when outside and present. So many natural wonders. The way the sun hits a tree in the evening, the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, fireflies, watching the sandpipers run away from the incoming waves at the beach, swimming in the ocean, the beauty of flowers and butterflies. So much beauty surrounds us. I just have to remind myself somedays to take my focus off the inner dialogue and notice.
