An Inspired Chat with Brian Hook of Cape Coral, Florida

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brian Hook. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Brian, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Many times people have the wrong idea about hypnosis. They don’t realize all hypnosis is self hypnosis. When you hear that you can become limitless. You Can! Usually what stands in the way of a person and their goals is themselves with limiting beliefs. Many times, something happened earlier in life, and just attached itself to your subconscious. Then that person can fight changing something they don’t know is limiting them. It can be torture and never be resolved until you find the cause of the limiting circumstances of the past. Once the person realizes what happened, they can set out to make dramatic improvements to reaching those goals, whatever they are.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brian Hook, and began a career in hypnosis at age 16. I’ve been performing hypnosis since 1987. I enjoy seeing the comedy side of strangers, who make every show memorable and fun. Though I enjoy the comedy, I’m changing to move more into motivating people with corporate events. Teaching an organizations team members, how changing the mental images in the mind, can make big differences in their career. For example, if a salesperson has always earned about $80k a year, but then changes that image to believe they earn $150k a year, their income will go up unconsciously, without feeling they’re doing anything different. If there is organizations out there that want these results, contact me.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
That would be age 16, and when I did my first hypnosis engagement and people went into trance. I was speechless, energized, and ready to take on the world. It opened my mind of the potential of what is achievable.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to be resilient and find different ways to get to your goal. It’s like trying to solve the most difficult puzzle in the world. You try and fail, over and over again. You see others doing what you want to do, and question how they solved it. It’s happened numerous times to me, but I followed advice my dad gave me. He said life is hard, it never gets easier. Son never bend or give into failure. So it was then I found my personal philosophy FACE IT, DEAL WITH IT, AND MOVE FORWARD, NO MATTER HOW SCARED YOU ARE! So even now, when adverse circumstances happen, I see my dad looking at me and saying, you have never failed me, I know you have this, you will succeed. My dad has been my rock. Even though he passed away, feel him inside, reassuring me I will succeed. And I do.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, my public version is the real me. Nothing changes in my private life. I speak my mind, but am poised at the words I choose to make sure I’m understood, without hurting people’s feelings, but sometimes that is unavoidable, so I just keep it real. Typically, I use humor to get my point and ideas across.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Probably that they really didn’t listen. They jump to conclusions, they think before putting mouth in gear, and they never realized what was going through my mind. Funny thing is, if they asked, they would know. I’ve asked for help many times, yet it fell on deaf ears and they never knew I was actually asking.
