Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Lexi Ruckman of Culpeper, Virginia

We recently had the chance to connect with Lexi Ruckman and have shared our conversation below.

Lexi, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
While we begin expanding Two Sisters with our first “brick and mortar” out of a shipping container, I feel called to growing our business in ways that we were once afraid to. While I think that the business model we relied on with the coffee truck worked well, we have learned that this business will be very different and will offer us so many more opportunities for growth, and we are really looking forward to that.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Our names and Lexi and Lauren and we own Two Sisters Coffee Co. We opened a vintage coffee truck in 2021 and worked it full time for three years. In 2024, we decided to sell the truck and shortly after decided we wanted to open a permanent location out of a shipping container. We grew our business organically through social media. Our first year in business was relatively slow and we would spend our slow afternoons creating content, with the hopes that eventually our days would be so busy with customers that we wouldn’t have time to create content during business hours. Thankfully that worked and we have enjoyed growing an online and in person community in Culpeper, Virginia.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Our dad taught us the most about work. He is incredibly hard working and an entrepreneur himself. He is creative and always went outside the box to create income – he is good at everything he does and has been such an inspiration to us.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell myself to dream big! I truly believe with faith, hard work, and the right support system, absolutely anything is possible. We have huge dreams and are fully confident that will be come a reality one day.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
YES! This is something that is incredibly important to us. We really value authenticity and work hard to make sure that who we are is consistent across the board.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
We are at the point in our career where we are incredibly excited for what is next. When we closed the coffee truck, we knew it was the right time. However, we weren’t sure what was next. We feel like this is the perfect next step for us and replicable so that we can hopefully have multiple locations.
