Story & Lesson Highlights with Alison Smith Martin

We recently had the chance to connect with Alison Smith Martin and have shared our conversation below.

Alison, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’ve had a calling to create courses and workshops and unleash The Animal Soul School for years. I’ve held myself back because it felt a bit overwhelming. Just recently, I took the leap and have been having a blast creating meaningful, heartfelt teachings that I know will make a difference in the lives of pets and their people!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Alison Martin — an animal communicator, energy healer, and the founder of Animal Soul Connection and The Animal Soul School. My work is rooted in the belief that the bond between people and animals is sacred, soulful, and deeply transformative. Through intuitive communication, energy work, and heartfelt guidance, I help pet guardians connect with their animals on a deeper level — in life, in spirit, and in every moment in between.

What makes this work truly special is that it’s not just about understanding behavior or offering support during a difficult time — it’s about honoring the soul-to-soul relationship we share with our animals. I believe our pets are here as teachers, healers, and companions on our life journey, and when we learn to truly listen to them, we can uncover profound wisdom, healing, and connection.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding The Animal Soul School, a heart-led learning space where pet parents can explore animal communication, energy healing, intuitive wellness, and soul-level connection through self-paced courses, meditations, and sacred practices. It’s such an honor to guide others in remembering how to trust their intuition and deepen the love they share with their animal companions.

Whether I’m helping someone connect with a pet in spirit, find peace during a health challenge, or learn to communicate intuitively for the first time, my goal is always the same: to nurture the sacred bond between animals and their people — and to remind us that love never ends.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I first dove into the world of learning Animal Communication, my entire view changed. I saw, and felt deeply, how we are all connected ~ connected with Nature and the Universe. Through the many years that have passed, this knowingness has expanded and deepened. I believe part of my work is to help others explore their own connections.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Grief has been the defining thread in my life — deep, profound grief. I’ve experienced many heartbreaking losses, both of beloved people and of cherished animals who were like soulmates to me. These losses shook me to my core and opened me to a depth of feeling I didn’t know I could survive.

But within that pain, I also found purpose.

I’ve learned that grief is not something to “get over” — it’s something to be honored, witnessed, and moved through with compassion. My healing began when I stopped trying to fix or rush my grief and instead let it become a teacher. It taught me how to sit with others in their sorrow, how to hold space for the invisible ache of missing someone who meant everything, and how to listen to the whispers of love that continue even after death.

Now, I support other pet parents who are navigating the sacred, tender path of loss. Whether their animals have just passed or they’re still processing grief years later, I offer communication, healing, and connection — not only to the memory of their beloved animal, but often to their ongoing presence in spirit. It’s the most meaningful work I do.

Grief cracked me open. But through that opening, so much love and soul connection has poured in — and that’s what I now offer others.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m deeply committed to helping people remember that the bond they share with their animals is sacred — and that it doesn’t end when the physical body is gone. Whether through intuitive communication, energy healing, or grief support, I want to change the way we view our connection with animals — from something sweet and fleeting to something soul-deep, lasting, and profoundly transformative.

One of the projects closest to my heart is building The Animal Soul School — a sanctuary of learning where pet guardians can explore their intuitive gifts, connect more deeply with their animals, and walk their healing path with guidance and support. It’s not just about offering courses — it’s about creating a heart-led movement that reminds people their intuition is real, their grief is sacred, and their connection with their animal is eternal.

I’ll keep showing up for this work — for the animals, the people who love them, and the healing it creates — no matter how long it takes. This isn’t just a project; it’s a soul mission.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am absolutely doing what I was born to do.

It took time, healing, and a lot of listening to my inner voice — but this path, supporting the sacred bond between people and animals, is the one my soul came here to walk.

I wasn’t “told” to do this work. In fact, for a long time I didn’t even know it was possible. But the more I leaned into my sensitivity, my intuition, and my love for animals, the more I realized these weren’t traits to hide — they were gifts to share.

I believe I came into this life with a calling to help others experience the kind of connection, healing, and unconditional love that animals so naturally embody. Every time I help someone communicate with their beloved pet — in life or in spirit — I feel a sense of purpose that’s hard to put into words. It’s not about a career. It’s a soul agreement.

This work is not something I chose because it was expected or logical. I chose it — or maybe it chose me — because it’s what my heart knew all along.
