Ridhi Bhalla shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Ridhi, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Even though I am a very restless person at the core, I am very patient with how I act. It always works in my favour to sit and observe the situation before deciding how to react to it with kindness and precision. That is the beauty and the art of letting situations unfold themselves before you try to hastily jump in to reach a premature conclusion.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ridhi Bhalla. I am a filmmaker based in New Delhi, India. I have recently completed my master’s degree from Chapman University, USA. I work as a Director, Producer and Cinematographer. I am looking forward to expand my horizons in the art of filmmaking.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My father saw the potential I had way before I actually started believing in myself. He saw what I was capable of if only I would learn to be disciplined in life. He knew I was talented and hard working but consistency and discipline were the only things lacking in my life. I very recently lost him and I continuously strive to make him proud and prove him right. I am always grateful for how he shaped me from a very young age to be hard working, focused, kind and to have faith in my own capabilities and talent. His unwavering support has truly left a mark of confidence within me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering teaches you to face your fears. The fears that you have been avoiding, the insecurities you have been hiding. When you suffer, whether it is due to difficult circumstances or difficult people, the only thing that works is to constantly push through. To keep working when the odds seem to be stacked against you in your head. There is always a sliver of hope waiting for you to recognise it once you are worthy of receiving it. When you keep pushing through, you realise that there is no such thing that cannot be worked through and conquered, that your fears and insecurities exist within you. No harm can be done unless you allow it. People and circumstances can hurt you but they can never harm you unless you allow your mind to become a victim.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I have one belief that makes me get up in the morning and work through all the challenges that come my way – that I am here to make this world a better place. My existence was created so that I can share stories of people that are not heard in everyday life. The medium is just a medium. Whether the story is fictional or non – fictional, long or short, or whether it is not a story at all, it is just community service. The purpose is to help bring forward a change in the world I live and share.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
Not taking the risks that I needed to take when I had the time and resources to do it. I do not like to waste an opportunity because it takes a lot of work when you reach the point of being ready to receive the opportunity in the first place. A lot of work goes into creating something of value.
