We’re looking forward to introducing you to Angela Valentino. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Angela, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy is essential to me, if I didn’t have enough energy I wouldn’t have been able to face everything I’ve done. Thanks to energy I’ve achieved great goals in the world of work and beyond, energy allows me to feel good with people, my energy is positivity, the people I meet love my energy I can completely overwhelm them and give a different vision of life. If there is energy you can get what you want.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a make up artist and I have been doing this job and in general in the entertainment world for twenty years, from fashion, to theater to cinema.
I have worked mostly in the fashion industry. I started my career in Italy in Milan until I started traveling for my work between Europe and Africa but my dream was to come to America. And here I am. I have been living in New York for ten and a half years working between Broadway and Hollywood theaters, I have also had experiences in Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. My work has led me to win awards and to give me the success I have always wanted even if I still have many goals to conquer.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a little girl full of dreams, but I had one that was very big, the American dream. The American dream is difficult to conquer, to live, it is a path made of many sacrifices and you have to work hard to obtain it. That child grew up becoming a girl, always with the same dream and finally a woman who today has obtained her American dream with difficulty, obviously I am working hard to make my goals come true.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Giving up for me means failing. There have been very difficult times where everything seemed unattainable but it is in those moments where you understand not that you cannot give up, because suddenly you see in front of you everything you are investing, everything you have always believed in that cannot crumble in a second just because you are tired of fighting, you are in that moment and it is understandable, it can happen, but tomorrow is another day and you can see things in a different way. Everything in life happens for a reason, I strongly believe in this. I have achieved many goals in my life, I was tired sometimes bitter but I never gave up, this gave me the strength to move forward.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
What they love about me is that I am without filters, I am myself. Sometimes when you work in the entertainment industry it is complicated to be yourself because you have many characters in front of you who in front of the cameras are people but in reality are others, I prefer to always be myself and one thing that has repaid me a lot is my humility.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
In general I do not regret anything I have not done. I have lived and had my experiences and I will continue to do so. The only thing I regret is not having been able to eliminate people in my life who did not want my good but were close to me only for their own interests, but this is life, it is impossible to meet only good people.
The experience has certainly taught me to grow and evaluate people differently.
