We’re looking forward to introducing you to Angelica Clemmer. Check out our conversation below.
Angelica , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually start my day with rushing out the door to walk my sweet pup Iggy at the beach, he is a cotton de tulear that just turned 4 years old, we are spending the summer in Rehoboth Beach De, working my east coast gallery but we always have beach time. After that I make a smoothie and we go open the gallery!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Angelica but everyone calls me Gel, I guess Angelica is too long, I am figurative artist, painting murals, canvas, surfboards, I make signs and dabble in stained glass. I am a surfer, snowboarder and musician. I am truly living my dream, I am celebrating 10 years of living off of my art. I’ve have always refused to settle for any less which has been hard at times but after doing it for so long now now things seem to flow smoothly
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom is the one person that saw me clearly before I could see myself. She always told me to do what I love, to follow my passions and to not listen to anyone that had something against what I was doing. That my art work was awesome and she loved it! She told me that her and my father had worked and continued to work for me to have a great life doing what I wanted. She passed away 2019 from pancreatic cancer suddenly and I miss her very much but everything she taught me lives inside of me. I guess I am the continuation of her now.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When business is slow and it happens, sometimes I question if I should stop painting and move on to something else, maybe focus on my music more, I have a lot of interests. Thats when I truly let the universe guide me and I dont worry I just flow with the times. I am a creator so I’m always creating something, then suddenly things are fine again. Selling art is a rollercoaster, financially and emotionally.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me! I love people, I want to help them succeed. When people ask for advise about the art business I am super open about my journey
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am definitely doing what I was born to do, maybe having the galleries is the one thing that is momentary. I believe the galleries are not what I was born to do but is part of the process, a step in the ladder of where I am going as an artist.
