We’re looking forward to introducing you to Avee Charles . Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Avee, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Since, my last conversation with you guys my life has changed drastically. My daily routine constantly changes due to my education, owning a brand and creative projects.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Avee Charles, founder and designer of Aveeation, a contemporary brand rooted in urban entertainment and the nostalgic eras that defined fashion. My passion was shaped in Philadelphia, where culture and community inspired me to tell stories through design. Aveeation stands out for reimagining the past while creating modern, innovative pieces.
In 2022, our SHEIN collaboration gained international visibility, ranking among the top sellers. Since then, we’ve grown into the contemporary space with features in Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, and a campaign with British Vogue.
Most recently, we relaunched our men’s collection with Off/Script, integrating AI technology into fashion. Right now, I’m focused on expanding retail presence and continuing to celebrate culture through accessible, meaningful design.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I’ve always been a child of the arts from music theater, fine arts and fashion. My earliest memory was my first performance at Freedom Theater an historic theater based in Philadelphia. We trained like professionals , from diction , dance and vocal training all summer for that one moment. The stage has always felt like freedom .. apart me still desires to return. The energy from my peers and audience always felt like home.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The power of consistency as well as my strength in faith with Christ. As a child of God my lowest moments were alone in solitude & prayer. Every time I overcame an obstacle I realized that I wasn’t suffering; it was a detox from old mindsets, old environments and people who no longer served me or my future. Rejection is redirection and positioning for what’s new. It may look like you’re suffering but it’s for a purpose.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
My father once told me “What’s for you, is always for you”. In this moment in time many people mimic or are intimidated by those who have gained success. However, you never know what people have endured and their specific journey. When you’re in your own lane and continue to have tunnel vision no on can block or hinder what God has for you, from business, education and relationships. When opportunities are missed or a door is closed, or you feel overlooked there is always something greater prepared for you.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
My brand and legacy is rooted in those who came before me. Having the privilege to be raised by my grandparents and great grandparents have played a huge role in my brand from their fashion influence, morality and faith. A lot of people don’t know I come from four generations of seamstress from Jamaica (father side) to North Carolina (mother side). Aveeation is legacy in motion; not just a brand that’s based on trends and attention but actual value and recognition to my families legacy through clothing. Some people won’t get the purpose of Aveeation, and that’s okay…. that means they simply weren’t my target audience.
