Story & Lesson Highlights with Nadine Robinson of London, United Kingdom

Nadine Robinson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Nadine, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I love this question! In this season of my life, I am 100% walking on not just a path but MY PATH! For me, walking on this path means being obedient to what/where God is taking me as well as being truthful with myself about the aspirations, releasing of things/people that no longer serve me and moving on from circumstances and mindsets that have been holding me captive mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, dear reader, my name is Nadine Robinson, and I am a certified Journal Therapist, writer, and self-published author. I run an organisation called New Pathway Narratives, which is an evolution of my previous company, NPNarratives.

In my field of expertise, I help people like you to find authentic, therapeutic and empowering healing and growth via way of writing therapies (journaling, transformative, restorative, etc.) as expressive forms of self-discovery, reframing narratives and mapping out future aspirations.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
This is a poignant question. I would say the part of me that has served its purpose would be the version of me at thirty-eight years old. The woman I was then was in a period of metamorphosis, and this then became the turning point of my true becoming of self. If this version of me continued to compromise her dreams, desires and needs in life, I would not be where I currently am. Now this isn’t to say that life has become a flower bed of roses, not at all! However, it is to say that life has evolved and come into alignment with the design of life that God created me to experience.

What is more, once I released her, I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is interesting that when we are in dark places, it is easy to become accustomed to the pitch black surroundings, yet it is only when the light breaks through the darkness that we can truly see all that is standing in our way.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Funnnily enough, this is a recent experience for me. I am usually the one doing the listening, but on this occasion, I was giving the space and freedom to share not only my perspectives but the feelings that were attached to them. In this instance, I was reminded that hearing is our natural response to people, but to truly listen to the heart of a person is an ability that exhibits compassion, a desire to understand and not urgency in responding hastily.

I believe that so many of us navigate our worlds simply by listening, but how often are with intentionally listening to understand. As we live in a world where everyone has something to say, it has become habitual to hear because we are not deaf, and to take in everything that is being said. Unfortunately, if we do this continuously, we become sensitised to it and lose sight of how to filter out the noise from the truth.

With that being said, I am truly grateful to know that in that specific moment, I was being heard, and more importantly, was not being judged for my beliefs in regard to the situation at hand.

I would definitely encourage others to take inventory of how much they hear in comparison to how much they (actively) listen.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to helping others seek truth – truth in their relationship with Jesus Christ, truth in who they are, truth in where they are going, and truth in embracing every part of themselves irrespective of what the world says they are. In conjunction with this, I am dedicated to using my god-given talent of writing to help others do that.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Whenever I think about legacy, my mind does not go to the tangible things in life. What I would like people to remember by and tell people about is my willingness to meet others where they are at, my desire to see and help nurture people in their joy.

When I take into consideration my children, I would love for them to be able to read through my journals and see the humanised side of their mother, not just the woman who cared and catered to them. For them to walk away feeling proud that I was the woman who was fortunate enough to be that person to them.
