Since launching my travel business in March 2020, amidst a world in flux, I have been on a journey of personal growth and learning. As I approach the five-year milestone, I find myself reflecting on the successes I’ve celebrated in organizing trips and connecting with clients. Each of these experiences has contributed to my growth and understanding of the travel industry.
My original goals of growth and innovation were tied to transformative, values-driven travel experiences.

Having networked with a diverse range of people from various countries and walks of life, I am excited to introduce a unique strategy, which I call Impact Travel. This approach, which involves experiences that actively give back to the environment, culture, and people, serves as both a differentiator and a compass for my future strategy. I believe it will not only set Chessine’s Travels apart but also resonate with our clients who are increasingly seeking meaningful travel experiences.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I am Chessine Nugent of Chessine’s Travels, a boutique travel agency that blends luxury, wellness, and cultural immersion into unforgettable experiences. Her journey began with a childhood steeped in global exploration, history, and a foodie trip in Mexico, diving in Hawaii, and discovering the natural beauty of U.S. national parks. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for travel.
After 23 years in the tech industry, I made a pivot back to my passion for Travel. Armed with a degree in Recreation and Leisure Management and a deep well of global experience (over 35 countries and counting), I launched Chessine’s Travels to help others experience the world with intention and soul. My time working on cruise ships—where I earned the nickname “Sea Hag” and met my husband, Kevin—further shaped my love for small-ship adventures and off-the-beaten-path destinations.
Today, I specialize in customized exotic getaways, wellness retreats, and immersive cultural journeys. My brand is built on the belief that travel is more than a vacation—it’s a form of personal expression, a way to connect deeply with the world, and a catalyst for transformation.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
My journey began at the age of 25, when I embarked on cruise ships, finding myself in a unique position as one of the few US citizens on board.

After seven years, and being blessed to see a lot of the world by myself,
It taught me that when Travel is done with intention and openness, it is a powerful catalyst for cultural understanding. It’s not just about seeing new places—it’s about shifting perspective, dissolving assumptions, and engaging with the world on its own terms.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say having great family support. With all the ups and downs I have faced.
Learning Resilience and never giving up has led me throughout my life. I do believe in the statement.
“”When you are given lemons. Make lemonade and add a lot of sugar!”

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I had a hard time because I had followed both of them for a while. The Ying and Yang are what we need today.
I believe they see the need for the greater good for all.

Bernie Sanders is often described as a principled rebel—someone who has remained remarkably consistent in his beliefs over the decades, even when they weren’t popular.

Sanders’ character shines most in his refusal to compromise on values for political gain. Whether you agree with his policies or not, his moral clarity and consistency are rare in politics.

Pete Buttigieg, affectionately known as “Mayor Pete,” brings a distinct character to the table—one rooted in humility, intellect, and bridge-building.

Buttigieg’s character is defined by his ability to connect across divides—generational, ideological, and cultural. He’s a modern statesman with a quiet strength.
