We recently had the chance to connect with Nikole Marston and have shared our conversation below.
Nikole, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Currently, I balance working full time, being a mom of two young children, running my photography business, and finishing my bachelor’s degree in education. Life is full, but I’m grateful for the opportunities and passions I get to pursue each day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey there! I’m Nikole, the heart behind Light & Love Photography. I’ve been lucky to call Southwest Colorado home for the past five years, though I grew up all over—Oregon, the Dakotas, and Montana. Maybe that’s why I love capturing families and relationships so much, every place and every story is unique. I put my heart into making each session special, whether it’s a giggly family adventure, a love story, or those little everyday moments that mean the most. Light & Love is all about preserving those memories so you can hold onto them forever.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has shaped me the most is with my kids. I have two young little ones, and seeing the world through their eyes is amazing. They notice things, feel things, and experience life so differently than I do. They inspire me every day to slow down, be present, and appreciate the little moments. Being their mom has taught me patience, love, and joy in ways I never knew before.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, there have been so many times I’ve almost given up… whether it was juggling school, running a business, and raising two little kids, or just feeling like I couldn’t keep up. But each time, I remind myself why I started, and I take it one step at a time. Those moments are tough, but they’ve also shown me how resilient I really am, and they make the victories… big and small, feel even sweeter.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that my kids, my family, my husband, my close friends, my photography business, and my drive for teaching and education are what really matter to me. They’re what keep me going every day, and everything I do—whether it’s capturing memories through my photography, shaping young minds, or spending time with loved ones, is for them.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m out fishing with my husband or just spending time in the mountains. Being in nature or sharing those quiet, simple moments with him helps me slow down, breathe, and really appreciate life.
