Naeemah Purcell of Woodridge on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Naeemah Purcell. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Naeemah, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
There are actually two things that have brought me joy lately. First walking my dog without being connected to technology phone, headphones etc. just being with nature. Second is listening to music while creating things.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Naeemah Purcell although on the Not Your Normal Discussion Podcast I go by Queen Pedii. I host along with Nina, Tryst and Kronik. We are getting ready for our newest season that starts September 26th. We like to say being on our show is an experience. We want you to let your hair down and really have difficult and much needed conversations followed by laughter. You just never know what will happen on our show.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bad or no communication. If you don’t feel like you’re being heard when you are trying to have a conversation it makes you not want to be around that person that makes you feel that way. Communication is key in all relationships and bonds with others. What would restore bonds would be having open communication where you aren’t being judged for being yourself. That’s why NYND’s cast has held on for so long. We always try to have open communication with each other.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh absolutely! There were times I wanted to stop doing the show because I didn’t feel like it was getting where I wanted it to be. I had to realize that everything comes in due time. I’m glad that I never gave up because we had an amazing last season and an exciting one coming up.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Well, for fads I wait about a month and see if it’s still a hot commodity I know that it will fall off after that. Foundational shifts are more important than a labubu or a jet 2 holiday. They are things that will impact everyone even if you don’t think that they will.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people tell the story of my courage and strength to keep going even when everything was crumbling around me. I hope that they speak of my kindness, empathy, humor and talent. That I never gave up.
