Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with maryly acevedo

We’re looking forward to introducing you to maryly acevedo. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning maryly, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
The first thing I’m most proud of building is freedom. I learned that success is not just for myself, but also for my family. I’ve built resilience by overcoming challenges like bullying, which taught me strength and gave me the drive to keep moving forward.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The first thing I’m most proud of building is freedom. My name is Maryly Acevedo, and I own Valentino Photography. I started this company seven years ago with nothing but a camera, a dream, and a lot of determination. Four years ago, I became a professional photographer for all the national parks, something I never imagined possible when I first started.

What makes me proud is not just the business itself, but the resilience and success I’ve built along the way. I didn’t just create a career for myself — I created stability and inspiration for my family. I also built strength from my struggles, including overcoming bullying, which taught me that my voice and vision matter.

What people don’t always see is the late nights, the self-doubt I had to push through, and the endless hours I spent learning and growing. But that unseen work is what allowed me to build freedom — freedom to create, freedom to provide, and freedom to keep reaching for something greater.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was always ambitious at heart. I dreamed big and believed I was meant to create something meaningful. But for a long time, I was also someone who tried to please everyone else, constantly putting their expectations ahead of my own. It took time for me to realize that living that way was limiting me. The moment I stopped chasing approval and started listening to myself, I discovered my highest potential. That shift allowed me to see that I was capable of so much more than I had ever imagined, and it gave me the courage to truly step into who I was meant to be.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
My pain is what motivated me to become who I am today. I took my struggles and my failures and turned them into fuel. Instead of letting them break me, I used them to build something meaningful — proof that even through hardship, growth and success are possible.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’ve always been true to myself, no matter where I am or who I’m around. I don’t have a large circle of friends, and that’s intentional. For me, building relationships takes more time because I value honesty and authenticity above everything else. I’d rather have a few genuine people in my life than surround myself with anything fake. Staying real sometimes means standing alone, but I’d rather walk my path with truth than compromise who I am just to fit in.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
What I love most about my work is capturing real, genuine moments that stand the test of time. Every session I do is authentic — nothing is staged or forced. I don’t believe in faking emotions or poses; instead, I focus on creating an environment where laughter, joy, and real connection flow naturally. The moments we capture aren’t just photos — they’re memories, stories, and emotions frozen in time.

For me, photography is about more than just pictures. It’s about leaving a legacy — giving my clients something they can carry with them for years, something that tells their story in the most honest and beautiful way. When my clients leave a session, they leave not only with photographs but with an experience they’ll never forget, moments they’ve truly lived, and memories that will continue to inspire and bring joy long after the camera is put away. That is what makes my work meaningful and what drives me every single day.
