slr slr shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning slr , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I would have to say creating. When I’m deep in art -writing , posing ,expressing I forget the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As SlR, I work at the intersection of fashion and self portraiture, using photography as a tool for Both visual storytelling and self exploration.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I had to stay small to be accepted- that blending in was safer than being seen. I thought my sensitivity. made me weak , and that self expression needed to be filtered or hidden. I don’t believe that anymore. Through my work especially in self- portraiture I have learned that my sensitivity is strength.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her you don’t have to become someone else to be loved. Who you are your voice, your vision, your softness, your fire its all enough.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
not really. The public version is polished, controlled, sometimes a little guarded.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I believe people might misunderstand the vulnerability behind my work , assuming its purely about aesthetics or surface level beauty.
