Isamu Morikizono shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Isamu, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Family time
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sam, the owner of Tajima Ramen.
It has been 24 years since I started the Tajima Ramen in San Diego.
I have always strived to create restaurants that are loved by the local community.
A few years ago, we established our own commissary, where we produce essential items such as ramen broth and chashu in one place. This allows us to maintain and further improve the quality of our ramen.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
yes
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
no
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
yes
