Rachel Wood of Maryland, USA on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Rachel Wood and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Rachel, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Outside of what people see in my work, I’m proud of building resilience and balance for myself and my family. That shows up in routines, creative outlets, and personal systems that keep me grounded. It also shows up in the strength I bring to my team. I make sure we’re not just checking boxes, but grounding every project in research, a clear why, and a story that creates emotional pull in the brand. That kind of invisible work may not always be visible, but it’s what makes lasting impact possible.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Evolve by Rachel Turner LLC began in March 2020 in the most unexpected way—when someone bought a plant I hadn’t even intended to sell. That small moment of connection became the seed for what has since blossomed into a vibrant, evolving business. Over the years, Evolve has grown into much more than a shop—it’s been a space for creativity, collaboration, and community, from hosting pop-up markets and partnering with local businesses to designing logos and marketing materials that help small brands shine.

Alongside Evolve, I also serve as a Marketing Operations & Merchandising Lead where I focus on e-commerce strategy, Shopify merchandising, and connecting people to products in meaningful ways. That professional journey continues to influence how I approach Evolve, blending structure and strategy with creativity and storytelling.

Most recently, Evolve has expanded to include Leatherwood, a handcrafted leather goods line created alongside my husband, Andrew. His timeless, hand-stitched pieces add a new dimension to the brand, blending my vision for creativity and connection with his artistry and craftsmanship. Together, we’re building something that feels both personal and purposeful: a brand rooted in growth, craft, and intention.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that shaped how I see the world was losing my dad in a motorcycle crash. It was sudden, devastating, and it changed me forever. In the middle of that grief, I realized how fragile life is and how quickly everything can shift. It woke me up to the truth that we don’t get endless chances….life is short, and every decision, every connection, matters. That lesson challenges me every day: to take risks, to evolve, and to stop waiting for the ‘perfect’ time.

Becoming a stepmom to two amazing kids has only deepened that perspective. It’s taught me that the legacy we leave isn’t just in our accomplishments, but in the love, guidance, and presence we offer along the way. For me, it’s not only about the path I’m on but also about the example I set, the resilience I model, and the joy I help cultivate for the people walking beside me. Both of these experiences, loss and love, remind me daily that meaning is found in how we show up, and that’s what drives me forward

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
A time I almost gave up was when my mental health felt like too much to carry. After my dad’s death, I began to realize that something deeper was going on. For years I had been masking, pushing myself to fit into expectations that never truly fit me, until it left me exhausted and questioning everything, even my career.

After a season of burnout and depression, I finally discovered that I have AuDHD, and that nothing was ‘wrong’ with me. My brain simply works differently, and those differences can also be strengths.

That realization gave me the courage to let go of things and people that weren’t serving me, and to make room for those who do. It’s taught me that I don’t need to chase what isn’t meant for me, because the right people and opportunities will always find me. That perspective is what keeps me moving forward. If I would have “gave up” I wouldn’t have what I do now. I am forever thankful.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I believe authenticity draws the right people and paths into your life, while justice calls us to stand for what’s right. In a world that feels heavy right now, those two values guide how I live, lead, and create.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
At the end of the day, I just hope people say I was kind. That I cared deeply and made sure others felt it.
