Tanisha Mackin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Tanisha, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My day begins with reading the daily word and prayer on my Bible app. Then, I head outside for a brisk 30-minute walk. My morning routine ends with taking my daughter to school.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tanisha Mackin, and I am a 10x bestselling and award-winning author, ghostwriter, publisher, and travel writer. I recently expanded my business to include virtual assistant services, with a clear goal in mind: to help small businesses and aspiring authors achieve their goals.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The tragic loss of my husband profoundly changed how I see the world. In my grief, the world seemed evil and heartless. But in the midst of that pain, people’s kindness poured into my children and me, showing me that the world still has a heart. It taught me that life and people are precious and should be cherished.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were countless times I wanted to give up on my business. Between difficult clients and the feeling that my business wasn’t going anywhere, I thought it would be best to walk away from publishing.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Anyone who knows me well would tell you how much my children and nephews mean to me. They are my world, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I find my greatest sense of peace when I travel. There’s something about being by the water on a beautiful beach, or meeting locals and immersing myself in their culture, that brings a profound calm. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes you just need to step away from reality to truly appreciate what the world has to offer.
