Dominique Wilson-Grubbs shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Dominique, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Content creating and cosplay brings me joy outside of work. Creating cool videos for my YouTube and other social media pages are definitely enjoyable. The process is fun because I get to create and edit videos and also help my husband do the same.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I love to cosplay various characters in geek culture. My husband and I have been primarily cosplaying Power Rangers and Marvel characters. We have been building our brand DGLW Entertainment, where we are photographers, cosplayers, performers and content creating. I still continue to impersonate Michael Jackson as well by requests.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My current relationship has shaped me the most to see myself. My husband and I feel the most comfortable with each other than any other relationship we’ve been in. I am able to express my true love for the geek culture, get inspired to work hard and feel loved at the same time.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time in my previous relationship where I wanted to give up. I was experiencing so much hate and jealousy for my successes, that I was ready to give it up to make someone else happy and make them feel better about themselves. I even nearly gave up performing as a Michael Jackson because of the non support and harsh words.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Over the years, I have been learning to love myself. I always say “What you see, is what you get!” I am as real as they come and anyone who has ever met me knows this for a fact.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope to tell people when I’m gone is that I am a person who loves and respects everyone. I am a hardworking person and a person who is willing to help those in need.
