We recently had the chance to connect with Duygu Gunesli Ozgun and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Duygu, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Being a workaholic camera assitant and chasing after big dreams has been taken over by motherhood. Since I dlearned about my pregnancy everything has changed. I had to become more aware of my health and wellbeing for my unborn child. I gave borth to my first baby boy in June 2025 and since then every minute of my day is dedicated to him. I do miss going to sets and doing my job. I am hoping to get back to work later on little one gets on his feets.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Duygu Gunesli Ozgun aka Dee. I have been in the film industry since 2018 and working as a second camera assistant for 4 years now. I worked in many productions in various scales from student shorts to Hollywood blockbusters. My experience in different countries like the US, the UK and Turkey gave me the ability to adapt and opened my eyes in creative and operational way. Now I am a fresh mom who is looking forward to get back to work.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I would say one of my collages back in the day when I first started to work as a camera assistant. By then I was a camera trainee, fresh out of film school. I taught I know enough but when I get into real set , I learn thats there is a lot to learn. By the time on that first project I worked on, the 2nd AC Osman, taught me the most. I still appriciate his knowledge and eager to pass it on.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Perfectionasim. It’s a desease! When I was in the film school, we all shot our own final short film as a finishing project. I did quite a good job as a finishing project regarding my teachers and classmates. But I had the fear to share my short publicly. I always thought there is more to improve so I have been postponing the publish it and fell into self deception. So I never publish it. Still today I have the fear to name any project of mine as a finished product.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie in the industry at the moment is I think thats its going to get better. Maybe its not a lie, lets say its a hope!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
Persuing camera operating. It’s my dream job!
