Donovan Granberry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Donovan , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately I’ve recently been enjoying networking with others from different cities in the 757 to create a pioneer sound with big and local artists in Virginia. I feel how the way I’m working and processing these projects and making new feelings is what makes me feel excited and dedicated.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I produce music for both local talent and bigger artists, with the goal of building something creative and fresh to share with the world. What makes my work special is the atmosphere we create it’s not just for us as artists, but for the listeners who connect with the sound. Everything starts from scratch, and watching those ideas grow into something people can really feel is what drives me.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Division happens when people forget we’re all chasing something bigger than ourselves. Bonds are restored when we come together to share energy, ideas, and culture.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yeah, definitely. There was a point where I hit a huge pause for about a year. I felt stuck, questioning my direction, and honestly wondered if it was worth continuing. But during that break, I realized how much I missed creating and how much music is a part of me. That time away gave me a new perspective and reminded me why I started in the first place. When I came back, I came back sharper, more dedicated, and more focused than ever.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I believe that building with people from the ground up is more powerful than only chasing after those who are already established. There’s something special about growing together, creating a sound, a brand, or a movement from scratch. The bond, the trust, and the energy you build in that process can’t be replaced.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Even if no one praised it the way it deserved, I’d still give it my best. At the end of the day, it’s about loving what you do. If you truly enjoy the process, the recognition doesn’t define the value it’s the passion that keeps you going.
