We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jon Antonucci. Check out our conversation below.
Jon, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are some of the most productive for my personal life.
I begin my day with prayer, meditation, and reading.
I then pursue mental growth through the study of alternative languages, reading of different genres, and a perusal of the top headlines.
Physical exercises come next before I shower and dress for the day.
Some days include coffee at this time. Others do not.
And, at this point, it is about 6 am 🙂
I’ve found the period between 0430 and 0600 to be a wonderful time to really set the stage for my own growth and therefore empower the rest of my day to effectively serve others!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jon, and my story is pretty unique.
For the sake of time, I’ll keep it short and say that I have been entrepreneurial since I was 7, and have been able to achieve some cool measures of success. I can also acknowledge that my journey has included some terrible failures, and one in particular that cost me and those I love dearly.
Thankfully, having learned amazing lessons from the challenges I have brought on myself, I have been even more equipped to serve others and participate in their journeys. I love seeing those I’ve worked with just absolutely soar!
This passion for empowering people to bring their best selves to their roles and to excel in their pursuits has led me to begin SML Consultive, where we are passionate about serving the front-line leaders (those actively serving a team) and giving them the tools to make the transition from the operational excellence that earned them a promotion to the relational excellence that will allow them to effectively engage with their team.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I operated under the illusion (delusion) that the world revolved around me.
You might think that is common for a child, but I feel like I took it to the extreme.
It was a bit of a journey for me to understand that is not the case, but thankfully, I eventually came to understand that our greatest fulfillment comes not in promoting ourselves, but rather in being of service to others. Once that became a characteristic part of my life, I found great value in elevating, empowering, and equipping others to be their best selves and have found it to be significantly more rewarding than being selfish and egotistically-focused all the time!
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
While success is always more fun, it is most often suffering that provides the most value and opportunity for growth!
For me, it was my success that resulted in the biggest personal character flaws and challenges. It was not until I suffered a massive failure that resulted in a ton of suffering that I was mentally and spiritually prepared to make the necessary changes in my life that have so positively impacted not only me but all of those around me!
One of the biggest lessons that suffering taught me was compassion and listening.
Learning to care about people in their struggle has been a huge change, and I am so thankful I have had the opportunity to grow in my empathy, generosity, and desire to serve!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I get asked all the time if I am always “on”.
The answer is truly “YES!”
Feel free to cross-reference with anyone who knows me.
For good or bad (probably mostly bad), I am very consistent.
The Jon you experience at dinner is the same one in the grocery, and the same one in the training center!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Because of my journey, I know what it is like to know when your end will be and have to prepare accordingly. This has been exceedingly impactful to me and has been greatly motivating to me in succession planning efforts.
I have found that the average person does not think about the future too much.
And, while I value the experience of the present, I also know the importance of elevating and empowering others who will carry on important work.
