Meet Shaneice Sims

We were lucky to catch up with Shaneice Sims recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shaneice, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I like for it to always be known that God has a planned purpose for me and reunited me realizing my purpose through my son. I have always been a great organizer, designer, and artist but as life passed I lost touch with those talents trying to focus more on a career I allowed society to make me believe I needed. One day while painting during quarantine, my son approached me saying he had no idea I had this talent and should really sell them. I was so amused by his excitement that I actually posted the painting just to test the waters not fully trusting it would get any attention it all. The painting sold immediately! I am grateful for my son’s suggestion that led me back to my purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an artist that paints realistic images of people and incorporate ethnic features and the beauty of ethic hair types using different materials on the canvas including hair! The popularity of my “3D’ canvases grew into the need for my highly demanded paint parties.
The paint parties created an avenue for another audience that enjoyed my paint party decor and requested that I decorate for their events. Some of those events included bridal brunches, wedding receptions, and my favorite date night set ups!
What I find most exciting about what I do is being able to constantly create and being able to provide long lasting memorable moments for several walks of life.
I find what I do special on a personal level because I was able to work side by side with my son allowing me to create memories with and show him you can create a life off of a dream and/or talent.
There is plenty to look forward to from Giovonni’s Canvas! We are launching a new website that will have amazing merch and art, we are planning more themed paint parties and brunches, and most importantly we are looking forward to more events and donating more art kits this holiday season to many communities across the U.S.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful during my journey was and still is:

Persistence, never be afraid to constantly and consistently cheer for yourself & advertise/sell yourself. If you don’t believe it who will?

Faith, trust and believe that any talent or dream you have been blessed with was for a reason, do not be afraid to put it to use!

Courage, it plays a huge role! We naturally fear the unknown, so it does and will take courage to not listen to the na sayers, doubters, and non believers when they attempt to talk you out of a dream or aspiration because the results are unknown. Build up your own courage because your peers or even family sometimes will not be able to encourage you.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate as I head into year 3 of Giovonni’s Canvas. I would love to collaborate with other artist to plan art shows & auctions, venue owners for events, and more schools for art activities for children who had to have art & music cut from their funding. I am easily accessible through social media and email as well as many other avenues. shaneice.giovonni@gmail.com
