Tammy Reese on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Tammy Reese shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Tammy , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Proud: Finishing my first semester as a psychology major! It was intense, powerful, thought-provoking, deep, challenging, empowering, fun, and honestly life-changing all at once. I’m so proud of pushing through and embracing the journey.

Laugh: My husband and son keep me laughing daily. We’re a silly bunch, and the way we joke around with each other always brightens my day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tammy Reese. I am a wife, mother, award-winning actress, writer, journalist, and owner of Visionary Minds Public Relations and Media. At my core, I am a storyteller who loves to connect people and explore synergies that lead to meaningful collaborations and opportunities.

With a strong background in entertainment and media, I have built a career as a celebrity interviewer, having had the honor of interviewing icons such as Angela Bassett, Sigourney Weaver, Jasmine Guy, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Jennifer Connelly, Sharon Stone, Geena Davis, and many more. I am also honored to collaborate with major industry brands including AMC Networks, STARZ, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, BritBox, Lifetime, BET, HBO, and others to promote their content and talent.

In addition to my individual work, I co-own the Tales from the Media brand with my collaborator LaKisa Renee. I also contribute to numerous media outlets, and most recently, I launched The Bliss Section, an empowerment brand rooted in mental health advocacy and personal growth. I am currently pursuing my degree in psychology, which has added a deeper layer of purpose and perspective to my work as both a creative and a mental health advocate.

What makes my work unique is my versatility and passion. Whether through journalism, public relations, acting, or motivational speaking, I am committed to amplifying the voices of others—business owners, thought leaders, visionaries, and creators—and helping them gain the recognition they deserve. My purpose is to serve, to tell meaningful stories, and to use media as a platform for empowerment, inspiration, and connection.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A few pivotal moments have deeply shaped how I see the world. Becoming a parent gave me a greater sense of purpose and taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. Losing my mother reshaped my perspective on life, grief, and resilience, while getting married showed me the beauty of partnership and growth through love and commitment. Now, studying psychology has been transformative as well, allowing me to better understand human behavior, mental health, and the power of empathy. Each of these experiences has influenced how I show up in the world, both personally and professionally, with more compassion, strength, and intention.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Losing my mom was one of the deepest wounds of my life, but it also became a turning point. It pushed me to grow stronger, to lean into my emotions and my faith in profound ways, and to help others who are navigating the same kind of loss. Along with my family, I’ve been able to honor and celebrate her legacy in iconic ways, with more to come. Another defining wound has been my own diagnosis with anxiety and depression. Instead of hiding it, I chose to use my experience as fuel to speak out and take part in ending the stigma around mental health. Today, I stand as an advocate, encouraging others to embrace compassion and live a life rooted in mental well-being.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I can talk about my mom all day long. Hands down, she’s the person I admire most—not just for the influence she had in our community, but for the incredible strength she carried as a woman. Even after losing her sight later in life, she continued to pour into her family and community with love, resilience, and service until the very end. I also deeply admire my husband’s character. As a wonderful father and a loving, supportive partner, he is my better half and a true example of what integrity and devotion look like.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I love this question. I feel most at peace when I’m with my family. Nothing else compares—being surrounded by their love and presence is my ultimate calm.
