We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amber Kwong. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Amber, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are all about setting the tone and intention. I start by giving myself quiet time to talk with God, thanking Him for my hands and eyesight that allow me to do this work, and for every client who will walk through my doors that day. I also ask Him to guide me with the right words and energy that my clients are meant to receive.
I’ll usually listen to a sermon or a positive, motivating message while I’m getting ready—it helps me stay grounded and focused before the busyness begins. Those first moments of gratitude and intention make all the difference. They keep me aligned, remind me why I do what I do, and set me up for my day to flow as smoothly as possible.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Amber! I’m a lash artist and industry leader who is passionate about creating not just beautiful lashes, but meaningful connections. My work has grown from being behind the lash bed to also being deeply involved in the industry itself through events like Lashcon and organizations like Beauty 4 A Cause. What makes my journey unique is that I’m driven equally by artistry and impact—I love perfecting my craft, but I’m just as passionate about uplifting others in this industry and being part of something bigger than myself.
My brand is rooted in gratitude, faith, and intention. Every day, I strive to make my clients feel seen, cared for, and confident, while also showing my two daughters what it means to be strong, independent, and purpose-driven. Right now, I’m working on expanding my role in the industry, continuing to learn and grow, and finding new ways to give back to a community that has given me so much.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Wow, what a powerful question. I feel fortunate that I’ve always had a strong sense of who I am. But like many business owners and entrepreneurs, I’ve definitely fallen into the trap of thinking that success means constant hustle—that if there are 24 hours in a day, I should be working 23 of them and sleeping one.
While I believe in the importance of grit and hard work, I’ve learned that taking care of myself—getting adequate sleep, working out, and spending quality time with my husband, kids, family, and friends—actually allows me to show up stronger, more focused, and more present in every part of my life. One quote that really resonates with me is: “Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” That balance has been essential in helping me stay grounded, confident, and true to myself while pursuing my dreams.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: trust your strength and your instincts, even when it feels like the world doesn’t see them. I’d remind her that having grit and resilience isn’t about always speaking up or proving yourself—it’s about knowing when to push forward and when to stay silent, because sometimes not saying anything speaks louder than anything you could put into words. Life will test you, but your patience, perseverance, and belief in yourself will carry you through in ways you can’t even imagine yet.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies I think our industry tells itself is that social media followers are the ultimate measure of success. It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers, likes, and comments, but followers don’t always translate to clients actually walking through your doors or paying for your services. While building a social media presence can be a great tool and even lead to influencer opportunities, it’s not a requirement to run a successful, thriving business. Real success comes from your skill, your professionalism, your client experience, and the relationships you build—not just your online numbers.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell about me is that I was someone who showed up with heart, passion, and integrity in everything I did. That I poured love and care into my work, uplifted others in the lash industry, and created spaces where people felt seen and valued. I also hope they remember me as a mother and a wife who prioritized family while chasing her dreams—someone who showed her daughters what it means to work hard, lead with kindness, and live a life full of purpose and gratitude. Ultimately, I want to be remembered as someone who made a difference, not just in business, but in the lives of the people around her.
