We recently had the chance to connect with Trelly Mack and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Trelly, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
I start off every day by meditating for 30 minutes. Then I check my emails. Then check my calendar and move according to the agenda.I have planned out
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well, my name is Montrell Maclin. Also known as Trelly Mack, I’m CEO of Hard Labor Entertainment. Hard labor Entertainment started is as artist and development recording label that branched off in to a clothing brand. We make streetwear inspired clothing for young creatives, entrepreneurs and every day, people who want to express their self identity. Our online store, Thelaborfactory.net generated over $20,000 in sales its first year. We want to continue to push entrepreneur and ownership in the culture of music and fashion.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I believe the moment that really shaped me to see for how I see the world is when I was working a 9 to 5 job that I had been at for 4 years. I did not receive a bonus that the entire company received except me and few other employees. I felt I should have received the bonus. After I brought it up the company continued to string me along, saying I would get the bonus. Next thing I know they fired me. From that day on, I decided that I was not going to work another job and just work for myself
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, there has never been a time that I thought about giving up. I always knew that in order to be successful at something. You have to sacrifice, you have to be consistent, dedicated and first and foremost, you have to have faith in God. I always look at it like the only way something is not going to happen for you. Is if you give up. If you keep going eventually it’s going to happen
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads they blow up quickly become trendy, fade out and they come and go. Foundational shifts take longer to build, but it grows over time. It has a more solid foundation so it doesn’t need a fad to survive.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think most people will misunderstand about my legacy is that I had everything together and figured out. No one knows about the struggles, the failures, the set backs the long hours. The hard work and dedication that I put in over time. The end result looks easy there’s a lot of malfunction behind the scenes
