RAXX shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi RAXX, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Feeling inadequate or not enough, even people who seem confident often fight impostor syndrome
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by RAXX, and I’m an independent hip-hop artist from Toronto. My music is raw, unapologetic, and rooted in real experiences, everything I create comes from a place of truth. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation for powerful performances, bold lyrics, and a unique energy that blends vulnerability with grit.
What makes me different is that I’m not afraid to talk about the hard stuff like love, loss, resilience, identity and I bring that to life on stage and in my records. My brand is all about authenticity, empowerment, and breaking barriers, especially for women in hip-hop.
Right now, I’m working on new music and building momentum with performances across Canada, festivals, and major events. My story is still being written, but one thing is constant: I’m here to push boundaries and create moments that people remember.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped how I see the world was when I lost Matt. His passing hit me in a way I’ll never forget, it was like the ground dropped out from under me. It made me realize how short life really is, and how quickly someone you love can be gone.
That loss changed the way I move. I don’t take time for granted anymore. I don’t wait around to chase opportunities or to tell people how I feel. It also made me pour even more of myself into my music, because it’s the one place where I can take that pain and turn it into something that might help someone else feel less alone.
Matt’s passing taught me that life is fragile, but it also showed me the importance of living fully, unapologetically, and with purpose.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, I’d say almost every day. Being an independent artist isn’t easy it’s a constant grind, and there are days where the doubt, the setbacks, and the silence from the industry make you feel like maybe it’s not worth it. I’ve definitely had moments where I thought about walking away.
But every time I get to the edge of giving up, something pulls me back whether it’s a message from someone who connected with my music, a stage that reminds me why I do this, or just that fire inside that won’t let me quit. Music is more than what I do, it’s who I am. So even when it feels impossible, I find a way to keep going.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I used to hide parts of myself and only show what I thought people wanted to see, but not anymore. Now the version of me the public sees is the real me, flaws, strengths, everything. I realized people connect more when you’re authentic, and I’m done pretending to be anything I’m not.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I was fearless, that I spoke my truth, that I gave my all to my music, and that I never let the industry or life break me. I want them to remember me as someone who inspired others to be real, to chase their dreams, and to love themselves even when it was hard. More than anything, I want my story to be about impact, that my words, my energy, and my presence made people feel something that stayed with them long after I was gone.
